We have more home-grown talent in the shape of Garron Frith, highly acclaimed country-tinged songwriter, accompanied by percussionist Neil Wardleworth. Neil also transforms into his alter-ego Tea For One to play a set of bluesy Americana reminiscent of Robert Plant’s recent work........ Not to forget the raw sensuality of the North-West’s queen of new country, Donna Marie.</

Featuring the amazing accappella choral sounds of The Voice Collective - they are so good we keep having them back! A first time visitor is Chris Selman, from Liverpool, who writes beautiful melodic songs influenced by Ryan Adams and Bright Eyes. Manchester’s own Freddie Dickson plays his own highly atmospheric version of Americana. And the real deal in this genre is Risa Hall, who grew up with The Ramones in NYC’s Forest Hills - and it shows!

Our special guest Mr Plow, all the way from the Midlands, has friends in high places; his e.p. "Four murder ballads" was Mark Lamarr’s fave vinyl release of 2008! In support we have some of Manchester’s top songwriters Ann English, Colin Wakeford and David Gordon. No Picnic Area as Wayne’s on holiday, but Andy Callen will be playing with guest musician Paul Devlin, formerly of My Cat Dances, who will add acid jazz organ and spacey synth to classic Picnic Area, My Cat and Theme Park songs plus the odd cover!

This month’s show features local Manc Americana specialists The Yellhounds; last time they played, their version of Little Feat’s "Willin’" caused a standing ovation! In a similar musical vein is local songstress Joanna Lyon, who has an impressive range of instantly catchy songs. Ben Calvert brings Smiths-influenced alt folk all the way from Brum. Whilst Hannah Peel, despite her name, is nothing to do with The Avengers and everything to do with experimental ambience and 80s synth-pop! Picnic Club Special with Andrew "Blind Boy" Butler, Fuel Bar, Wilmslow Road, Withington, Manchester M20 Mon July 20th, 7.30pm, adm free: Andrew "Blind Boy" Butler is best known as one third of highly acclaimed (and extremely busy) outfit Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine Band. As a solo artist Andrew plays just about every instrument known to mankind and musical influences range from Leadbelly to George Formby! He promises a host of new material in his Fuel set (Andrew is standing in for Alexis Harte who had to pull out)... Support comes from: Picnic Area, Manchester’s own alt country renegades; highly acclaimed scouse new country band The Good Intentions, whose new album "Poor boy" is well worth buying; and Tea For One, aka Neil Wardle (yes there is only one of him!), whose bluesy brand of Americana is reminiscent of Robert Plant’s recent work.

Alphanaut is a one-man electronica project by musician Mark Alan, which lifted off after a decade away from song writing. During the time between Fall of 2007 and Summer of 2008 the creative process began again and two dozen songs formed.
