a poet strays down unwalked paths
alone for the most part
seeking out like-minded ones
because although many disagree
poets are human
and desire literary intimacy
but keeps
a necessary distance
glad for the friendship
wary of gossip
and internal struggle
fearful of dark secrets being told
knowing it is no longer a secret now
we see things through a poets eye
an oddity among the sane
who walk the earth
not at all sure we belong

A Circular Argurment - VFW
Current mood: distraught
The people are wicked they are cruel they are killers they are her father her mother they are American they are her family she walks among them freely and with impunity they are the vfw. They hug her and she knows why they cry they have killed and they are not sorry she is but she hugs them back they are the vfw. And one of them died today and she went and ate their food today and she went and ate today and the Arabs whispered raq raq iraq by god and she went anyway. And she missed her man kanly terribly and he is gone and he misses her terribly today. A toothache a headache a stomachache something just gone wrong a finger lost in the mechanism something to go on the poster god help us she's gone. He's gone.

Child of Washington

What are my emotions on this amazing day
I am proud to say the tears have flowed like the rain
on a summer dog day in DC, when you sit out on the back
stoop and pray for the rain to fall down on your sweating ass.
I must have touched every brick in every dark alley
Hugged every cherry tree, closed down the Raven
and opened up the Washington Post in the morning at Tryst
Cried over who died the night before and laughed
at Marion Barry's goings-on, gossiped at Florida Ave.Grill,
Listened as my elders broke it down in barber shops,
old juke-box joints playing Stylistics and Marvin Gaye
and the Blackbyrds, doin it in the park, doin it after dark
oh yeah Rock Creek Park oh yeah Rock Creek Park
Talked my way into the 9:30 Club to see Fugazi, and
got up at 3 am to bail people out of jail, stopping at
McDonald's so they could get that jail smell off em.
Watched the sun come up from every memorial
Standing with my friends and eating falafel and gyros,
Swanked it up at the Mayflower and the Watergate
in velvet shoes and black and silver lace, rhinestones
swinging in the dark basement house parties of SE,
Danced all night at Platinum, running through the zoo
Hanging out at the Mall, sat on every couch in every
hotel lobby, every bar stool from Anacostia to Mt.from Chevy Chase to Foggy Bottom, walked down the street
while young men hollered Beautiful, you my favorite girl
from every passing work truck and old re-done Crown Vic,
Ran me some copy machines on K St. and made me some coffee.
Rode in limousines and walked home because I didn't have bus fare.
Spent all day at the Folger, Library of Congress, or the Crow's Nest
at the Willard, the fireplace at the Ritz, cozy and warm, safe and happy.
So welcome to DC Mr. Obama. I know you will love her just as much...
Wendy

Is it an eel an ichthys an ancient fish a blow-up inflatable doll
crawling out of the box slippery shiny chrysalis sticky surface
Eyes round half mad with crippling fear she stinks of it.
And the box glowing with a million colors opaque and beautiful
Why would anyone want to leave it would want to leave it
She's climbing out of the box.

STOPPING BY TO SAY HI ;)

Hope is the thing...

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

- Emily Dickinson

a friend is like the light.

a friend is like a flower that blooms just for you..and we can be our real selves when we see what's true..a friend is like a gentle rain when you thirst..and we are dancing rings around a rose called mother earth..a friend is like the moon choosing to reflect the light..and we couldn't see the beautiful stars unless it was for the dark of nights..a friend is like a flower we send to ourselves..a gift that just keeps on opening until the light of love is shown and felt.
