How a single bullet killed 25 lions.



When I was in Africa a couple of decades ago, I camp for a stretch in the territory of a lion pride comprised 3 males, 10 females and 22 cubs.



The 3 pride-males, named Agamemnon, Achilles and Hector (AAH), were about 6 years of age and very much in their prime. Their 22 cubs were thriving under their protection - protection against predators,



and the coalition of four 4-year-old prideless bachelors, who had been loitering in the neighborhood.



Due to the superior fighting prowess of AAH, they had been kicking the butts of the Gang of Four (GOF), so far. If the GOF drove out or killed AAH, they would kill all their cubs so that the lionesses would have cubs bearing their genes. AAH would be able to repel GOF for another couple of years, which was a fairly stable long term scenario in lion terms. What was unforeseen was that a trophy hunter killed Achilles.



Now with only Agamemnon and Hector holding the fort, they were no match for the GOF. Valiantly, AH tried to defend their offspring, but it was a matter of fighting to the last cub before they both were killed. The 10 lionesses became the spoils of war. And so, a new leonine dynasty was born. But through it all, 25 lives were loss, all due to one single bullet fired by one egomaniacal trophy hunter. Shame on Safari Club International! And shame on you Mr. President, for support hunting.

A federal appeals court reversed a lower court's ruling on Friday that barred a Santeria priest from sacrificing goats in his Texas home, saying a city's decision to prohibit the ritual violated the man's religious rights.
In its ruling, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans said the Euless ordinance placed a substantial burden on Merced's "free exercise of religion without advancing a compelling governmental interest using the least restrictive means."
"It's a great day for religious freedom in Texas," said Eric Rassbach, Merced's lawyer.
Merced said by practicing his faith in the privacy of his own home, he didn't harm anyone.
"Now Santeros can practice their religion at home without being afraid of being fined, arrested or taken to court," Merced said.
Rassbach described Santeria as an Afro-Cuban religion with a complex ritual for ordaining priests, including the sacrifice of up to nine four-legged animals, such as lambs or goats, up to 20 chickens or other fowl and a turtle.
Merced said police officers interrupted a ceremony at his home in September 2004 and told him to stop slaughtering animals.

Many thanks for the add. Hope you enjoy the music and message behind it. My mission in life is to fight Human trafficking...understanding the individual pain of others is sometimes to painful for an other individual to touch and that is frightening ...
what i mean is that someone whose life is not traumatized and brutalized as a regular sequence of every day events unconsciously seeks the camouflage and shelter of apathy and banality from the reality of such devastating anguish and terror ...but the spirit of young people who are used as sex slaves in the systematized global industry of human trafficking is now reaching out to the human fellowship in hope and desperation and through technology ...

it is scary when humanity turns a blind eye to this horror ...its like ignoring genocide whilst it is happening ...

what i am asking is that if you hear the cry of these young people who are existing in an environment of torture and brutality each and every day that you then please do not turn away from them ...

please reach deeply into your heart and soul and join a movement that challenges modern slavery in the 21st century ...
