Wonderin' how you're doin' these days. If I me some had lottery winnings I'd PAY you to go over to Galway for an entire month... with that only recently tore into liver of yours...asking only one thing in trade, that you listen to and write something about the rich traditional music that seems to congregate there...and bring me back a green and black Hibee's scarf.

Took an hour to tune my first kalimba. Really easy to make. Needs a little grinding to take the sharp edges off. I wonder how it would sound run through an amp. I have a small prototype I made mounted on a Twinnings tea can. It actually acts as a resonator. So...I have something of a musical instrument again...that I actually play.

There's this guy who makes special guitars in Pueblo.

http://www. wowmusicalinstruments. com/

Just sorta stumbled onto him years ago looking for work in cabinetmaking. He works alone in a dusty old building downtown. Helped me cut something really large on a table saw, a fireplace mantle. I'm wondering if he can make a Kalimba into an electric instrument that has contolled feedback.

Your comments picture speaks of wishful thinking in summer. I think it actually got hot today. I had to open the window.

The bear now does a funny dance standing on his back legs for bottles of Coca-Cola. (He won't accept cheap generic.) I've no heart to tell him he can't hibernate here this winter.
Can you give him some guitar lessons, or a bath, or a good home?

(And a poem to go with it)

My Father’s Wedding
by Robert Bly

1924

Today, lonely for my father, I saw
a log, or branch,
long, bent, ragged, bark gone.
I felt lonely for my father when I saw it.
It was the log
that lay near my uncle’s old milk wagon.

Some men live with a limp they don’t hide,
stagger, or drag
a leg. Their sons often are angry.
Only recently I thought:
Doing what you want ...
Is that like limping? Tracks of it show in sand.

Have you seen those giant bird-
men of Bhutan?
Men in bird masks, with pig noses, dancing,
teeth like a dog’s, sometimes
dancing on one bad leg!
They do what they want, the dog’s teeth say that.

But I grew up without dog’s teeth,
showed a whole body,
left only clear tracks in sand.
I learned to walk swiftly, easily,
no trace of a limp.
I even leaped a little. Guess where my defect is!

Then what? If a man, cautious,
hides his limp,
somebody has to limp it. Things
do it; the surroundings limp.
House walls get scars,
the car breaks down; matter, in drudgery, takes it up.

On my father’s wedding day,
no one was there
to hold him. Noble loneliness
held him. Since he never asked for pity
his friends thought he
was whole. Walking alone he could carry it.

He came in limping. It was a simple
wedding, three
or four people. The man in black,
lifting the book, called for order.
And the invisible bride
stepped forward, before his own bride.

He married the invisible bride, not his own.
In her left
breast she carried the three drops
that wound and kill. He already had
his bark-like skin then,
made rough especially to repel the sympathy

he longed for, didn’t need, and wouldn’t accept.
So the Bible’s
words are read. The man in black
speaks the sentence. When the service
is over, I hold him
in my arms for the first time and the last.

After that he was alone
and I was alone.
Few friends came;

I want to give you this immature black bear this year for your birthday. He keeps coming around my back yard. I just have trouble trying to get him into the crating. He's too smart! Anyway, he's yours. Wondering how you are doing, and if you think this "singularity" thing is the rapture of the geeks.

The musician, Dave Wilcox was on the radio this morning touting the virtues of his Airstream's acoustics. He recorded his latest album inside it after taking a two year journey around the country (took his ten year-old kid out of school to do it, too.)
I think you may have something there in wanting one. I suppose it would be a curious sight for a salesman to see you approaching his lot with guitar in hand: "I'd like to test drive an Airstream today if I may.

Delicious soup recipe! Though it is hard to catch those damn little Irish dwarves. The one I caught kept drinking the Jamesons leaving none for me or the recipe.I figured if he had drunk all the booze that I didnt need to add any to the soup as he was sauced already.
