Happy birthday, Toby!  Everyone is sending you well-wishes over Facebook, so I'll be defiant and post here, haha.  I hope Europe is treating you well.  An acquaintance of mine, Jaime, is sorry he couldn't make it to the Marseille show yesterday.  Hopefully I'll get to see you next Friday in NYC with Extra Life!  Take care.

congratulations on the success of the new maudlin album, very refreshing to my ears. I am looking forward to the new kayo dot album, it was a treat seeing you play bass live; a nice change of pace for an instrument that often goes overlooked. good luck in any new musical ventures you take on. sincerely - taylor

So lately I have been trying to decipher the lyrics to Blue Lambency Downward and it is proving extremely difficult. It seems certain themes repeat throughout the album (such as Mia singing "the bell" on BLD and Symmetrical Arizona) but it's still hard to decide if the album tells a story or if the songs are unrelated. Also I still can't figure out what an obfuscaire is lol. Regardless, you sir are a master of cryptic poetry.

Yesterday, I received my own copy of the L...L..., well
I'm still here: curled up, scared, enraptured, simply enraptured...
surrounded by old books, old ghosts, wretched dreams, unregarded poems and a borrowed soul... is it a test?

Sep 5, 2008 5:43 AM

Hi, Toby. Interesting show tonight at The Stone. Here's my two cents.

I'm very interested to see what becomes of this new piece. It definitely didn't sound like Kayo Dot, except perhaps the third section. Didn't seem sinister enough to be a LLLL sequel, and not quite minimalistic enough to be Tartar Lamb. My point is, it just seemed like an entirely different entity altogether, and I'm curious to see what it ultimately becomes.

It was weird (in a good way), and I think with a little refinement, it will be a really good piece of work. And just FYI, I noted some mixed reactions in the crowd. :)

Anyway, there are my brief observations.

Thanks again for the music.
Oskar
