Some of the bands/performers that Ariel Pink reminds me of and the songs of his I feel are most influenced by...umm....them(it's a change to change kind of thing, really):

1. The Cure(Grey Sunset, Strange Fires...namely the drum beats from both songs)
2. David Bowie(Grey Sunset/For Kate I Wait)
3. Kate Bush(ummm.....)
4. Colin Newman/Wire(Moya)
4. Kim Carnes(humming at very end of Grey Sunset)
5. Aphex Twin(Are You Looking After My Boys)
7. Deniese Williams(Are You Looking After My Boys)
8. Tortoise(strummy guitar breakdown in For Kate I Wait)
9. Deerhoof(every song he sings in a super high pitched voice)
10. Os Mutantes(Politely Decline)
11. The Beach Boys(this is more related to AP's compositional wizardry being on par with Brain Wheelson's, but again the voice reminds me of Beach Boy voice)
12. Air(Envelopes Another Day)

Don't get me wrong, I think Ariel Pink is still super original on top of all this(the ghostly atmosphere of his recording technique/words/overall presence, his killersmooth bass sound, cool lo-fi videos for many of his songs and last but not least, his awesome vocal range).
