STREET SOCCER PRODUCTIO…

Apr 23, 2008 5:21 PM

Greetings, and welcome to the first installment of the Street Soccer Freestyle Blog. We’re here to explore the beautiful game on and off the field. This is a forum for you, the player, the freestyler, the fan. I’ll be covering the sport from the street point of view. Taking a look at the soccer lifestyle, from the newest gear, trends and freshest tricks to the latest in player, club and national team news. This is the place to talk the game. Send in your comments, your news and even your videos.

Today’s topic: Are the flashy on the field moves of players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, show of disrepect to opponents or a creative expression of world class atheletes?

After this past week’s Champions League tie in Rome, Roma player David Pizarro lashed out at Manchester United’s Ronaldo for showing up his opponents saying, “Despite the fact that he is a great champion, he is very arrogant.” To which Ronaldo responded, “It's nothing against my rivals, those plays are just part of my way of interpreting footballIt's just a part of who I am.”
World football is currently suffereing is a lack of creativity. If anyone watched the 2006 World Cup Final, what we saw was an Italian team who played a slow, defensive minded style, taking advantage of the occasional counter-attack to score goals. Is that what the fans want? Not this one.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for defense. As a former college sweeper, I know the importance and can appreciate the beauty of a well played 0-0 game. But for another player to feel disrepected by a better player showing some flash and creativity? That’s just poor sportmanship. Pizarro should hit the pitch and practice. No one complains about a basketball player throwing behind the back passes or dribbling between the legs. And, last time I checked, the greatest icons in the sport, Pele, Maradona, Cryuff, Cantona, Best, are also known as some of the flashiest and most creative players.

We're running a short survey to gauge how optimistic fans feel about the forthcoming season, how you rate your manager, players and what you thought of the teams style of play towards the end of last season.

The survey is just 5 questions long and will only take a moment to complete. If you could forward the link to anyone you think would like to take part that would be much appreciated.

Well Ive just stayed up and watched season 3 finale of Lost and my head hurts so its about time i put some rubbish on peoples My space pages.Saw the thing below about Jossies Giants but does anyone remember slightly before tha, there was a programme called Murpheys Mob.Im sure it had the bloke in who went on to play Stig Of The Dump.Ahh,my school days have come flooding back of calling people Stig.

And did anyone notice in last Saturdays Match Of The Day,a lady commentater on one of the matches.I thought,Hmm dont recall there having been one before.Im not a chauvenist, but how many times in 5 minutes can you repeat the phrase"OOh good ball from the chinese captain"!!! And that was edited down! Anyway, great podcast one and all and a shame you couldnt have all got together for one final podcast....awwwwwww!

Oh the rubbish! I can't believe that the linesman disallowed the Giggs goal. It was clearly over the line, and so what if Drogba scored? First, he wouldn't have scored because Chelsea would have had the stuffing knocked out of them with the Giggs goal, and even if he had scored, it would have only gone to penalties. Rubbish I tell you.
