A wonderful, experimental film about the lost legend of pre-psychedelic folk guitarist Sandy Bull, made by his son K.C.

Vampire Blues is the duo of guitar player Jon Collin (Serfs, The Whole Voyald) and harmonium player Jon Marshall (The Hunter Gracchus, Peril Hill). They have a pretty special tape out on Blackest Rainbow. We can't recommend them highly enough.

The Fifth Band is the gobsmacking trio of Stephen Lawrie (The Telescopes), Bridget Hayden (Vibracathedral Orchestra) and Kryszt Hladowski (The Family Elan). Oof.

A Wake is the duo of Nick Mitchell and Fliss Horrocks who also play in Beach Fuzz.
This will actually probably end-up being a Beach Fuzz performance - this incarnation's first inside the UK.

SPECTRE FOLK (Pete Nolan of Magik Markers) + JON COLLIN + NEIL BURRELL

It's extremely appropriate that Magik Markers' drummer Pete Nolan is currently in the country to play with Jandek in London (which is how this gig came about, coincidentally).
Because his solo Folk Spectre record on the Woodist label demonstrates a penetrating knowledge of what makes that great Texan loner so amazing. Lo-Fi in the early 90s Shrimper label sense (yes!), the record contains a clutch of fragile, skeletal songs that inspire a depth of relaxation self-help tape manufacturers could only dream of. Of course, we're not talking 'swimming with dolphins' here. It's the constant hum - of tape hiss, mellow feedback, room boom, whatever - that sits beneath these beautiful songs that gives them their dreamlike quality. The name has been switched around to Spectre Folk but the vibrations are the same.
The Folk Spectre record is something truly special and we anticipate this show to be one of the most enthralling of our 2008 calendar.

Here's what Pete's Magik Markers partner Elisa Ambrogio had to say about it all:

"Here drum-dilweed extraordinaire Pete Nolan takes on new dimensions of low-fidelity radness through the Woodsist imprint. The infamous label in charge of releasing other super-jammers such as Axolotl, Loosers and Blues Control, Woodsist put this mother out in the o 7. So many good songs, I don’t know where to start; it’s like Gene Clark in a manhole with Von LMO in Bushwick. This is another artist criminally unappreciated for his solo work, most probably due to his surly manner. Just ‘cause the man don’t hold doors for people doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to build castle bridges of strangeness into the void. LISTEN.

WE WANT YOUR MIXTAPES! and we want them now....
For a mini mixtape/cd fest at Temporary Autonomous Arts, a squatted art exhibition in Manchester next week, from 24-28 October. See www.myspace.com/taamanchester for details....
Part of the lineup of events is DIY day on Thursday 25th, and part of that is our mini mixtape festival.

SO to get involved, all you have to do is:
1. Create a mixtape/CD! Make as many copies as you can, the more you give the more you recieve....

2. Message us to find out where to drop off your tapes before the event, or come to the space (Venue to be announced nearer the time www.myspace.om/taamanchester for updates...) any time on Thursday 25th Oct armed with your tapes/cds.

3. Put them on the mixtape exchange stall, browse through the other tapes and CDs,take whatever tickles your fancy. Check out the rest of the exhibition, the other workshops, and the jam night that night.

4. Go away with a load of ace new tapes and CDs lovingly compiled by a fellow mixtape enthusiast and discover new music for FREE! Come back to the space over the next few days and enjoy all the other amazing events that are going on.

Thats it! Simple but beautiful, eh? So get making those tapes and CDs and get in touch for info on where to bring them. Let your creativity run wild! The music can be themed, a collection of random favourites, music for a particular mood or time, and expose of a favourite genre, WHATEVER. Decorate the covers, make them pretty, make track listings, write little notes inside, or go minimalist and just bring a mystery tape without a case...

Its a good idea to stick an email address (or web address, or myspace profile address, or if you're a bit desperate your phone number and what night you're free for a drink...) in there somewhere so whoever takes your stuff can let you know how amazing it was. GET CRACKING!

Love and rewind and play and pause,
Now Hear This!

D.I.Y Day
Thursday 25th October Noon until 7pm.
Temporary Autonomous Arts Exhibition Manchester

As part of the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) movement, the TAA provides a temporary space for anyone to
teach or learn something interesting and share skills which help people live practically and
happily, creatively and sustainably. It's based on the idea that everyone has something to teach
you don't have to be a professional or have a degree in something to pass on skills. Nor is it required to pay an institution for education.

If you would like to share a skill please get in touch, whatever it is. Some ideas: bicycle maintainence, knitting, welding, yoga, playing an instrument, yoga, container gardening, how to speak another language, screen printing, basic electrics, bookbinding, basic plumbing, how to light fires, mix tape swap, computer skillshare, haircutting, clothes making, FREESHOP (bring stuff you don't want, take stuff you do!)..
email with the name of the workshop and a time to:

Saturday, 17:02 ...so far, goes to local singer songwriter Becca Williams who impresses a sizeable Green Room crowd with just an acoustic guitar and a lush vocal tone. desmund hotties wont let you know how they feel about size.
I know from personal experience, I will tell you about a secret that desmund has made me promise to never ever tell anyone, but since he has not called me in three weeks after standing me up, I am going to break the promise and tell you how he went from having a tiny thing and in three months he is now about nine inches and get this, it is still getting bigger. He has been secretly taking grow packs from this site, copy and paste the address into your browser to see them.SPEEBY.COM
I found out when I was at his house, three saturdays ago, we were getting ready to go to the mall, so while he was in the shower, I went in his room, sneeked under his bed and found a box with packs in it, there was like seven full packs and three empty ones, all ordered from SPEEBY.COM I was laughing at first but then when he came in the room and caught me looking at them, he freaked out and made me sware to not ever tell anyone about them, especially girls from school or work that he has been dating for the past while, now that I think of it, he has been rather busy with all the popular girls around here, when just last year he was the shyest when it came to girls.
I just never put two and two together until he explained it all to me, I did see his johnson and yes, it is huge, pronostar huge, the thickest and longest one I ever seen.
I know this sounds really shallow, but I am considering ordering 6 packs from the website at SPEEBY.COM for you know who.. he does not have a web page, so he is not gonna see this. They guarentee that the packs will work on any man, or they give you your money back, living proof that they do work on any guy, seeing is believing.SPEEBY.COM
