Please tune in to “Music Beyond Borders” Thursday July 5 on KPFT 90.1FM Houston, Texas from 2-3 pm (Central US time) as I host a Philippine-American Friendship Day Special featuring music from Filipino artists based in the United States. Also on the agenda are interviews with New Jersey-based Pinay singer-songwriter Jing who visited the KPFT studio last month; Phuz guitarist Ken Sarmiento who will be bringing their freshly released cd “Forgiveness”; kayumanggi Pinoy rock band lead guitarist and professional translator Jimi Clark, who recently returned from the Philippines working at an international indigenous peoples conference on biodiversity; and award-winning Filipino filmmaker Rommel Eclarinal whose work is screening in Houston at 9 pm July 5 in the Houston Film Commission’s Texas Filmmakers Showcase at Dean’s Credit Clothing, 316 Main Street between Preston and Congress (see details below). Catch Music Beyond Borders live or in the archives of www.kpft.org.

The Houston Film Commission presents four short films by Austin-based award-winning Filipino director Rommel Eclarinal on Thursday July 5 as part of the Texas Filmmakers Showcase at Dean's Credit Clothing, 316 Main Street, between Preston and Congress in downtown Houston. The free screening begins at 9 pm. Rommel Eclarinal’s multilingual films, which have screened in festivals around the world, tell stories of oppressed people, particularly from his native Philippines. Mr. Eclarinal, who is also the Program Director of the Austin Asian Film Festival, will be present at the screening.
