Hello Sonia,
I want to wish you a very Merry Xmas and a fabulous New Year. I sent a similar message by regular email, so this is an extra copy to ensure I reach you. hehe.
Instead of the traditional e-card, I give you a link to a YouTube video that I shot on Dec 7th at Cours Mirabeau, in Aix-in-Provence, France, just before coming back to «very» snowy Montreal. It is a women choir singing a nice Xmas song, at night on the maket place. Here is the link (just copy and paste in a browser):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1b5pK7302Y
I hope you will like this little song and that it will give you joy.
Happy holiday season :)
Claude
p.s. I found myself a new erhu teacher in Montreal. will start again lessons in January. Meanwhile you can see my last «live» performances in a project management workshop, in Aix in my videos at www.myspace.com/erhusome. I guess I really need to start again lessons to kill my new bad habits :)

It has been a while since I posted a little poem for you on MySpace, Silkwormdaughter. So here is a pretty simple but significant one:
life is -- Bokonon
life is a garden,
not a road
we enter and exit
through the same gate
wandering,
where we go matters less
than what we notice

Best wishes always

(The Mountain Loves The Sea, Watercolor, 1971, by Joni Mitchell)
-------------------------------------------------
IF
(by Joni Mitchell, inspired by Rudyard Kipling)
If you can keep your head
While all about you
People are losing theirs and blaming you
If you can trust yourself
When everybody doubts you
And make allowance for their doubting too.
If you can wait
And not get tired of waiting
And when lied about
Stand tall
Don't deal in lies
And when hated
Don't give in to hating back
Don't need to look so good
Don't need to talk too wise.
If you can dream
And not make dreams your master
If you can think
And not make intellect your game
If you can meet
With triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same
If you can force your heart
And nerve and sinew
To serve you
After all of them are gone
And so hold on
When there is nothing in you
Nothing but the will
That's telling you to hold on!
Hold on!
If you can bear to hear
The truth you've spoken
Twisted and misconstrued
By some smug fool
Or watch your life''s work
Torn apart and broken down
And still stoop to build again
With worn out tools.
If you can draw a crowd
And keep your virtue
Or walk with Kings
And keep the common touch
If neither enemies nor loving friends
Can hurt you
If everybody counts with you
But none too much.
If you can fill the journey
Of a minute
With sixty seconds worth of wonder and delight
Then
The Earth is yours
And Everything that's in it
But more than that
I know
You'll be alright
You'll be alright.
Cause you've got the fight
You've got the insight

"I prefer enjoying my bad sight, renouncing to paint if necessary, but at least see a bit what I like."
Claude Monet
----------------------------
Monet Refuses the Operation
(a poem by Lisel Mueller)
Doctor, you say that there are no haloes
around the streetlights in Paris
and what I see is an aberration
caused by old age, an affliction.
I tell you it has taken me all my life
to arrive at the vision of gas lamps as angels,
to soften and blur and finally banish
the edges you regret I don't see,
to learn that the line I called the horizon
does not exist and sky and water,
so long apart, are the same state of being.
Fifty-four years before I could see
Rouen cathedral is built
of parallel shafts of sun,
and now you want to restore
my youthful errors: fixed
notions of top and bottom,
the illusion of three-dimensional space,
wisteria separate
from the bridge it covers.
What can I say to convince you
the Houses of Parliament dissolve
night after night to become
the fluid dream of the Thames?
I will not return to a universe
of objects that don't know each other,
as if islands were not the lost children
of one great continent. The world
is flux, and light becomes what it touches,
becomes water, lilies on water,
above and below water,
becomes lilac and mauve and yellow
and white and cerulean lamps,
small fists passing sunlight
so quickly to one another
that it would take long, streaming hair
inside my brush to catch it.
To paint the speed of light!
Our weighted shapes, these verticals,
burn to mix with air
and changes our bones, skin, clothes
to gases. Doctor,
if only you could see
how heaven pulls earth into its arms
and how infinitely the heart expands
to claim this world, blue vapor without end.

Sonnets to Orpheus, Part Two, XXIX -- Rainer Maria Rilke
Quiet friend who has come so far,
feel how your breathing makes more space around you.
Let this darkness be a bell tower
and you the bell. As you ring,
What batters you becomes your strength.
Move back and forth into the change.
What is it like, such intensity of pain?
If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.
In this uncontainable night,
be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses,
the meaning discovered there.
And if the world has ceased to hear you,
say to the silent earth: I flow.
To the rushing water, speak: I am.

Greatest Love Of All
(sung by Whitney Houston - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZkSZaTzed4 )
I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
And if by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love

Having Come This Far
(poem by James Broughton)
I've been through what my through was to be
I did what I could and couldn't
I was never sure how I would get there
I nourished an ardor for thresholds
for stepping stones and for ladders
I discovered detour and ditch
I swam in the high tides of greed
I built sandcastles to house my dreams
I survived the sunburns of love
No longer do I hunt for targets
I've climbed all the summits I need to
and I've eaten my share of lotus
Now I give praise and thanks
for what could not be avoided
and for every foolhardy choice
I cherish my wounds and their cures
and the sweet enervations of bliss
My book is an open life
I wave goodbye to the absolutes
and send my regards to infinity
I'd rather be blithe than correct
Until something transcendent turns up
I splash in my poetry puddle
and try to keep God amused.

To a daughter surfacing
(a poem by Santa Claude)
I thank you too so much
For I SEE you even better
You, magnificient lotus
The seed has stopped clinging
It has escaped from the mud
To raise to the surface
Such a beautiful lotus flower
Do not let anybody
push or pull you back
under the surface
For this would for sure be
A terrible crime
A crime against your Self
A terrible tragedy for our Humanity
So stay open to you and others
look straight to the sun
For you are such a beautiful lotus
a reflection of this sun on our earth
the warmth of its light in our hearts

She Walks in Beauty
(Lord Byron)
She walks in beauty like the night
of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
meets in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
had half impair'd the nameless grace
which waves in every raven tress,
or softly lightens o'er her face -
where thoughts serenely sweet express
how pure, how dear their dwelling - place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
so soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
the smiles that win, the tints that glow,
but tells in days of goodness spent,
a mind at peace with all below,
a heart whose love is innocent.

A little poem I received from Panhala.net this morning. Thought you might like this ! :)
Claude
Words
The world does not need words. It articulates itself
in sunlight, leaves, and shadows. The stones on the path
are no less real for lying uncatalogued and uncounted.
The fluent leaves speak only the dialect of pure being.
The kiss is still fully itself though no words were spoken.
And one word transforms it into something less or other --
illicit, chaste, perfunctory, conjugal, covert.
Even calling it a kiss betrays the fluster of hands
glancing the skin or gripping a shoulder, the slow
arching of neck or knee, the silent touching of tongues.
Yet the stones remain less real to those who cannot
name them, or read the mute syllables graven in silica.
To see a red stone is less than seeing it as jasper --
metamorphic quartz, cousin to the flint the Kiowa
carved as arrowheads. To name is to know and remember.
The sunlight needs no praise piercing the rainclouds,
painting the rocks and leaves with light, then dissolving
each lucent droplet back into the clouds that engendered it.
The daylight needs no praise, and so we praise it always --
greater than ourselves and all the airy words we summon.

Howdy Sonia,
don't know if you know about this song. I find this might be very nice things to say at a wedding too:
You Raise Me Up
Lyrics by Brendan Graham
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burden beat;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
Here is a video of it with karaoke word, while Josh Groban sings !

My Charioteer
He knows the journey's
always under way,
that transit is a fact of life,
life baggage,
like the tension in the reins.
He likes to drive,
to feel the pull and play
of Sphinxes at his fingers
as he steers both beasts
toward the sun,
across the soul's terrain.
He won't say how
he came to power,
his ascension was as quiet
as a scepter rising,
soft as his command
of all my senses
or the promise made
in this magician's ear.
He sees each star
for what it is,
each moon and its reflection
and he never sleeps,
but when he tires
he seeks relief upon my table,
asks for magic and my hands,
requests the incantation
that can heal
and lays his head
where he can hear
a heart that's willing,
able to believe in each
and every dream.

Seven of Cups
Please take the painting down.
Let these cups pass from me,
this tapestry of castles shimmering in air,
so beautiful they hurt,
these pots of possibility
hovering like spirits
each with something in his hand,
an offering just out of reach.
How do I choose?
How can I know what cup to drink,
what dream to hold, to keep,
which fantasies should float away?
Have any of these a hope on Earth?
How much of this delay I feel
is just delusion, not a call,
not that I can have it all
but just that I pay close attention
to which truth decides to stay
and which ones blink out of view.
If all these cups have come to say
is just to focus my intention,
just to do the work,
why let each choice become a cross?
Why let this sweat become like blood?
Why not just do what I would do?

Strength
The wild cat longs to roar but only does so
when the mistress unhinges his wide mouth
and only while she holds him at her side.
Her touch is the higher power
and her smile soothes the restless predator
who stands and waits for thunder,
waits for change that rules his nature.
She knows the lion's appetite is large
and she will let him serve his purpose
for a season, caring that his work is done.
Seeing everything the creature needs
she bends toward the beast,
choosing what she is creating,
loving as she leads.

You are a waterfall
(by Caliban's dreams)
I stared into the eyes of a crazy day
And there you were, all dressed in stars
Moon eyes and the laughter of suns
A rainbow voice and summer hair
I envied your lightning arms
I was dazed, oh fairy, for you are a waterfall
I stared at moon:
perhaps I craved for a change
or perhaps there was awe to express
It's of no importance anymore.
Whatever you say,
whatever you do,
I see the beauty within you

On the Ning Nang Nong
(poem by Spike Milligan)
On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There's a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
So its Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!
