Affluent Beach City Sued for Treating Disabled Homeless People as Criminals

On Dec. 23, the ACLU of Southern California and the law firm of Irell & Manella LLP along with Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California, Irvine School of Law, jointly sued Laguna Beach over the affluent beach city's unconstitutional and inhumane policy of harassing, intimidating, citing and arresting disabled homeless people. The lawsuit – on behalf of certain homeless residents -- was filed in federal district court in Orange County.

To take money from HUD to help the homeless while passing
laws to criminalize being homeless is fraudulent and should be
subject to criminal charges as well as civil.

Good to see the marathon on myspace...I was glad to have been a part of the broadcast a few years back from radio station KLND in Little Eagle, SD. It was a real honor and a very humbling experience to tell the story from a Native American perspective. I am working independently with radio and may be interested in producing another segment in the future. Thanks for your time and consideration...respectfully...

Just wanted to let you (and your comment-reading friends) know that GUD Issue 1 is now available for purchase!



Issue 1 comes to life with Darby Larson's "Electroencephalography" where an experiment in robot-building goes terribly awry. And if you've ever woken up with an unexpected physical deformity—say, an arrow in your heart—you'll truly enjoy the next story. There's also a smattering of flash fiction and psychedelia; a straight-out story where things aren't what they seem, poetry that takes you from the perverse to the sublime, some magic realism, science fiction, and a few letters to another species thrown in for good measure. We haven't forgotten those of you with a literary bent. In addition, the artwork in this issue is particularly strong, with oil paintings, watercolors, photography, and photo illustrations complementing the words with which they are paired.
