O God of Love, make us more Thankful for All the Boundless mercies of Our daily life.
Forgive us that we are so often ungrateful, complaining and discontented, taking for granted Your greatest gifts: the Blessings of Health, the Comforts of Home and Family life, the Joys of Friendship, the Wonders of Your Creation.
Teach us day by day to Number Our Blessings and to receive each one as from Our Father's Hand; and Fill Our Lives with Gratitude, Our Lips with Praise; for the sake of Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Protest Italian right-wing mis-use of Indigenous peoples

It has come to our attention that the right-wing/fascist forces in Italy have come out with an anti-immigrant campaign, making use of (without permission) of an image of indigenous peoples/american indian/first nations/aboriginal person by misusing the analogy of what happened to native peoples with european settlement in the Americas.

While it is true that the indigenous peoples of the Americas were negatively impacted by the European colonization, it was not because they were "foreigners", it was because they came to subjagate us who had welcomed them initially with open arms. We identify with all those oppressed by colonialism/imperialism; and a major reason for immigration to Europe and North America is because the capitalist-imperialist powers (EU, US. et. al) have exploited and oppressed both the peoples and the countries of the third world. Those who immigrate to Europe and North America simply are trying to survive; a basic universal human right, and should not be attacked for it, but should be allied with, to end capitalist-imperialist oppression.

Yes to Indigenous Sovereignty, Yes to Immigrant Rights
No Human Being Is Illegal; To end poverty, end capitalist-imperialist oppression.

About Us:

The SUNY Social Justice Conference, November 7-9 at SUNY-Binghamton, will be a staging grounds for organizers and allies to build a united movement in our diverse communities. Budget cuts and privatization close doors to public higher education, but the state's prison system drains away funds into an ever-expanding industrial complex. As more young people of color enter penitentiaries than enroll in the SUNY system, campuses reap the benefits of forced prison labor. As educators and students fight to be heard, the state suffocates the power of unions to organize and negotiate. And as endless wars rage overseas, vital resources are wrested from communities back home. Drawing upon the rich history of vital student participation in struggles for social change, we will gather in November to build new movements for justice. Join us for a weekend of organizing, learning, networking, and connecting, feauturing workshops, strategy-sessions, discussions and a keynote address by people's historian Howard Zinn.

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for organizers and activists to host workshops on a wide range of social justice projects at the conference. These can range from updates on ongoing campaigns, movement strategy, anti-oppression trainings and more. To propose a workshop or get more info, contact sunysocialjustice@gmail.com

By car: If you take the Houston exit off of the FDR, then turn left onto Essex (aka Avenue A), then right on Rivington, and finally right on Allen, you will be very, very close.

what would the world look like after the empire is over

Turtle Island is what the first peoples called this land

a new flag for the new movement for a new land with no more empire

all of us together in solidarity with all the world

three stripes equal size

bottom stripe: green for the earth

middle stripe: red for all the peoples of this land and the lifeblood that flows in us

in the center/middle: a yellow circle representing the sun

this flag can stand alone or in conjunction with others

There can be no peace so long as there is no justice in this country. Clearly, justice has NOT been served in the case of the brutal murder of Sean Bell. We will NOT accept this. Enough is enough already. Too many have suffered at the hand of the cops and they are never held accountable. Time for the people to demand action be taken...

NYC Thurs 3-27 Indigenous Music, Art, Film Benefit at IAC 55 West 17th Street 5th Floor (5C) between 5th & 6th Avenues (Manhattan/NYC) for Owe Aku

Owe Aku ( “bring back the way”) works to preserve and revitalize the Lakota (Sioux) way of life. Our ancient identity guides us in our work and contributes to the preservation of the Earth. We promote and protect our land, treaty and human rights. Recently, tragedy struck when the home and office of our leaders, Debra and Alex White Plume, burned to the ground in the middle of the South Dakota winter. The family and the organization moves forward and we are once again turning to our friends and allies for help.

Thursday's multimedia program will consist of: presentations on Owe Aku’s work with Hemp (clips from the film Standing Silent Nation), Owe Aku’s efforts to preserve sacred sites (clips from a film on Bear Butte), an update on Owe Aku’s historic anti-uranium mining case, the progress towards rebuilding, sale of beautiful photographs from Owe Aku’s homeland and daily life by Malcolm MacKinnon, and Music by Matou: Indigenous musicians performing original compositions celebrating indigenous cultural strength, perpetuation of tradition, and expression of a love for nature.
The music is an eclectic fusion of Native American and powerful traditional Maori chants

For examples of the photographs for the silent auction go to www. nativeamericanphotography. com.

Shareef Aleem, Larry Hales and Melissa Kleinman at Dec. 3 news conference.

On Nov. 30, 2007 African-American police brutality and anti-war activist Larry Hales was arrested after 10 cops illegally busted into his home without a warrant and without permission, physically attacked him and handcuffed his partner to a chair. He is facing frame-up charges of "interfering with the police" and faces extended jail time for being the victim of a police attack.

Hales has been a primary organizer of a number of anti-imperialist and anti-racist events in Denver. He is a leader of the youth group FIST--Fight Imperialism, Stand Together; a founder of Colorado United Communities Against Police Brutality; and an organizer with the International Action Center and the Troops Out Now Coalition.

Hales is also a principal organizer in the Recreate 68 Committee, which is planning protests to counter the Democratic National Convention to be held in Denver in August.

At the time of the police attack, Hales and his partner Melissa Kleinman were housing a survivor of police brutality who was on parole. The man had been shot in the back by police and had filed a civil case against the Aurora police department. Hales had previously agreed to house visits by the man's parole officer, but only when the man was home.

Indigenous Peoples Message to the U.S. antiwar movement

We call on the U.S. antiwar movement to acknowledge that the very establishment of the United States and it's expansion was built on the genocide against the First Nations/Indigenous Peoples of the continent, along with the enslavement of African peoples & exploitation of peoples from around the globe.

Iraq (and the over 130 countries that have a presence of U.S. military) is just a continuation of "Manifest Destiny" which cleared the continent for settler colonization. Thus it's not a "mistake" of U.S. policy, but is at the core of the very foundation of the U.S. from it's beginnings continuing thru to today.

Thus, we say that the antiwar mobilizations that are taking place in March/April 2008

1)have an indigenous person opening the events ackowledging the above history and it's continuation into the present day and how U.S. history is linked to today's war(s).

2)that there be an organized and visible collective presence of contingents focused on indigenous peoples concerns at the mobilizations along with that presence being also on the websites, press releases, media spokespeople, et. al of these groups/mobilizations.

3)that the indigenous names of cities/towns in the various indigenous languages be acknowledged by also being mentioned to remind people of the indigenous origins of this land (for example "Manatay" for what is now called Manhattan ) along with the peoples (for example: Lenape (& others)) and the original languages.

We've now had 5 years of lies about 9/11, WMD's, and freedom. The real reasons were oil, profiteering, and fascism. Not just Bush, but the news media, most of congress, and all who remain silent. And now they'll use fear to quash dissent. It's nothing new -- it's been going on for ages. War, poverty, ecocide, arrogant bullying --they're all from greed and fear, which come from ignorance. ♥ But it's not too late -- we can still learn to make peace. Talk with people. Love, Eric
