SpiritHouse and UBUNTU at he United States Social Forum. What a treat!!!

NEED
time: Friday at 20:30 PM (8:30)
location: Horizon Theater room at the Little Five Points Community Center

This workshop will invite participants to interact with a performance
of Audre Lorde’s Need: A Chorale for Black Women’s Voices as a forum
to discuss the war on women and how we can overcome the silence that
perpetuates violence in oppressed communities.

We want the participants to leave with strategies for breaking silence
in their communities. We want them to leave enabled to use art as tool
to engage with issues and problems in their own communities,
relationships and personal lives. We also intend for participants to
take away their own copy of Need and the sample curricula that we have
developed and the art that they will have created in conversation with
the piece.

The presenters will perform the piece NEED and lead a discussion in
which participants discuss their responses to the piece. Then the
participants will break into groups to explore sample workshops that
they may be able to use in their communities.

Our workshop/performance will be conducted in English. We do not have
a sign language interpreter or a vocal translator who has signed on so
far. We are very open to being paired with people who could provide
these services.
(This workshop is co-facilitated by SpiritHouse and UBUNTU. And is listed in the USSF schedule under SpiritHouse)

Feminism: Gender, Race and Class
time: Saturday at 18:00 PM (6:00)
location: Atlanta Ballroom B room at the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown

The Feminism: Gender, Race and Class workshop will initiate a
strategic process for rebuilding/building the women’s liberation
movement. Solidarity, a national co-sponsor of the USSF, is lead
organization. This workshop acknowledges attacks on the gains of the
women’s liberation movement and the impact of gender, race and class
contradictions inside the wom

SPREAD THE WORD! COME OUT AND SUPPORT!

Take Back the Night
@ University of California, Riverside

"Many Voices Breaking Silence"
Thursday, April 19, 2007
6pm, Bell Tower

The unifying theme of the nationally recognized "Take Back the Night" events are that all human beings have the right to be free from sexual violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated. Please add your voice to "breaking silence" on April 19th.

Also, don't forget to wear denim in honor of UCR's Denim Day:
Denim Day is a campaign to raise awareness and educate the public about rape and sexual assault.

In 1998 an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans. People all over the world were outraged. Wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.

On this day, unite against the rape of girls, women, boys and men. Stand in support of survivors. Break the silence to end sexual violence. Wear your jeans as a visible sign of protest against the myths that still surround sexual assault!

A Queen is proud of herself. She respects herself and others. She is aware of who she is. She neither seeks definition from the person she is with, or does she expect them to read her mind. She is quite capable of articulating her needs.

A Queen is hopeful. She is strong enough to make all her dreams come true..... She knows love, therefore she gives love. She recognizes that her love has great value and must be reciprocated. If her love is taken for granted, it soon disappears.

A Queen has a dash of inspiration, a dabble of endurance. She knows that she will, at times, have to inspire others to reach the potential God gave them. A Queen knows her past, understands her present and moves toward the future.

A Queen knows the Creative Energy. She knows that with this the world is her playground, but without she will just be played. A Queen does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her life experiences are merely lessons, meant to bring her closer to self knowledge and unconditional self love. Queen, Smile.....YOU KNOW YOU HAVE IT GOING ON! .....So Keep ON Keeping On.

I just sent this to a Queen; why don't you
