Yes, Mass rider Leigh Boone has now passed away. A demonstration at Westheimer and Dunlavy during Friday's Mass would be ideal. A die-in, for example: http://criticalmass.wikia.com/wiki/Die-in

Just a request - Could we do something this month for Leigh Boone? Feels like the right thing to do....thanks

Actually I'd even be interested in doing something way sooner than that if anyone's interested.

Please note: Critical Mass Houston rider Leigh Boone (http://www.myspace.com/deliaderby) was on a bicycle and involved in the massive fire truck accident on Monday at Dunlavy and Westheimer and is in critical condition. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6349761.html

How about taking the ride to that intersection next month with some kind of demonstration? We rode through that exact intersection just a few days ago.

I recorded some video last night. Quality is poor, but I should have a better setup next month maybe. Video from Cerón, Tipping Point, and Tranquility Park

The Ride this month could land at this event: School of The Americas Watch Report Back which will be at the new Houston Institute for Culture space next to Bohemo's at Lockwood and Telephone, across from UH on the east side of 45.
It's a cool space, people who went to Georgia to protest the US Army School of the Americas this past weekend in Georgia. And Bohemeo's has food and beer and coffee. so yeah, I rekon thats where I'll end up.

Battle in Seattle is a Hollywood interpretation of the 1999 protest against the World Trade Organization negotiations in Seattle. It is playing at the Angelika Film center at 510 Texas avenue downtown. It opened last Friday and is appently closing this Thursday. This call out encourages radicals and movie lovers to come watch the Thursday October 9th screening, where will boo the cops, cheer for the protesters and hopefully not get embarrassed by how crappy the film is.

Y'all a friend of mine is in the comitee that is organizing a well known Westheimer festival in a couple of weeks. He would love to have the MASS out there as a part of the festival in order to promote the movement and raise awareness among the community.

FYI:
Charles ... you may recognize him b/c he is the one that has that loud air horn thoughout the ride, waives at everyone in a car and wears a red shirt.. Well, he designed a critical mass shirt and has been trying to sell them in the past rides. If you are interested he usually sells them before the ride starts at tranquility park.

"NYPD Officer Stripped of Badge After Tackling Cyclist

And a New York City police officer has been stripped of his badge after he was videotaped body-checking a bicyclist during last week’s Critical Mass ride. A video was posted on YouTube showing the officer, Patrick Pogan, violently knocking a cyclist off his bike. The officer then arrested the cyclist and charged him with attempted assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The police have said the charges against the cyclist will likely be dropped."

HOUSTON CRITICAL MASS JULY 2008
- HOW PEACEFUL !
Haute Asphalt

Jul 29, 2008 3:29 AM

3. Do not antagonize pedestrians or motorists, either verbally or physically. If a motorist is confronting you, do not escalate the situation. Speak softly and calmly, and explain that this is a peaceful protest.

Heads up! Five of us were detained on our way back to downtown by three cop cars & cops after last Friday's Critical Mass. Unfortunately some one in the group doesn't understand the term "peaceful protest" and banged on someone's car who then reported the ride to the police. Otherwise, the ride was great! See ya' next month.
