"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

Promotional Video(My Girl From The South Sea Isles)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Oct 10, 2007 6:56 PM

Bonjour, m'sieur Dole!
Thank you very much for the add. I love your sound--the saucy lilt of the real French cabaret fused with the jangle and spunk of la Cajun! I am intrigued by the notion of the parent tradition interpreting that of its offspring. In the case of British Skiffle music (my own albeit 'revived' genre), many on the American folk scene have dismissed or even derided the work of Lonnie Donegan et al as unauthentic or even devolutionary, yet it seems to me that British Folk music is the ultimate source of American Folk, even unto the blues (for its use of metered chord progressions, european instruments such as the guitar and piano, and of course English lyrics) so who better to comment or interpret? In addition, the conception of separate genres (Francadian Music, U.K. Skiffle) with their own hybrid standards in fact keeps the traditional forms pure ... Keep up the great work!

-Poor Andy

P.S. Thanks also for the great pic. Love it!!!
