Homewood, Illinois seems to be the place to be for the little buggers. I have traveled all around the Chicago area and have witnesses nothing like Homewood/Flossmoor area as yet.

cicada question: once in a while, i'll find a cicada that is missing a bottom torso, and the cicada's body is hollow, save for a little bit of scummy gut-stuff. simply put, it looks like a cicada finger-puppet. the cicada would still be alive and walking around, acting like nothing's the matter with him. why am I finding numerous "cicada finger puppets", and how are they able to walk around when their organs are missing?

I am very excited about the 17 year cicadas. I've been collecting the shells of the anual cicadas ever since I was very little. I would honestly like to keep them for pets but I know it's probably best for them to stay in the wild. They seem to be a kind insect, pretty, and interesting to watch. I'm from central Illinois and my mom's trees have been covered from top to bottom. Some of the cicadas were still in the grass, and coming out of their shells. The trees were buzzing with cicadas - it was an incredible and wonderful sight! I'm trying to find other areas in Illinois where I can hopefully spot hundreds or thousands of cicadas in swarms. I went to a park today with older trees and did not even find one. Since I'm a touring singer/musician, I would love to obtain some cicada aparel and help promote these guys and show the world what a wonderful insect they are. Also, feel free to visit my profile for some Easy Listening/Jazz and uplifiting music from the heart.

‘Cicadas Cymru’

Ingredients:
30 newly-emerged cicadas
2 tbps mustard seeds
1 tsp salt
2 cups Penderyn Welsh Whiskey
1tbsp Worcestershire sauce
10 cloves mashed garlic
Leeks to garnish

Directions:
1. Boil the cicadas and mustard seed in Penderyn whiskey for five minutes, then remove the cicadas.
2. Sauté the mashed garlic and Worcestershire sauce, adding enough of equal parts water and whiskey to make a thick paste.
3. Grill the cicadas, then skewer them. Arrange them on a plate with the leeks and garlic paste.

Love your website - traveling from Maryland (where we had the critters a couple of years ago) to Northern Illinois in June to see them again.
