Man I was just having a similar problem. I signed up for a unlimited data plan among other things and was signed up for free on-side road assistance (free for 1 month-charged for it after that) and we called to cancel it after about a month. Turns out the brilliant people at Cingular canceled my data plan instead so I got a $3500 bill last month that they're still trying to get us to pay! Glad to find all your info though about your issue on here and The Consumerist it's been a big help.

cingular sucks! i used to work for them, their customer service is terrible and they always fuck up your bill.

Yea I know how you feel. I had Stinkular back in 2002. I had service for years with them before it was even Cingular. I was a customer back in the Southwestern Bell Wireless days. Then I moved to a different region down to Tennessee and thats when not only did I move south the service went south. I had a rough time finding a job down there and was getting a little behind on the bill. Back in St. Louis if I had that issue they were like oh you've had service with years we will work with you. Now when I had to change numbers 90% of the people refused to look up the old account and they said they couldn't. One of the good reps I had told me that they could and that they were just lazy not wanting to take the time to look it up. So when my phone got shut off and I called to take to them about thats when I knew my days as a customer were over. I talked to this girl said that she wasn't going to look up the other account and that I should just pay the bill even if I could pay my other bills she said. So I took her to take the phone and shove where the sun doesn't shine. Then she threatened to send it to collections so I told her to shove that also. I was tired of the all around poor service I received. It was horrible and I just don't see how they turned out to be one of the biggest wireless company with the service they have. I used to work with AT&T Wireless which is now part of Cingular and what we did was customer's were just horrible. Anyway I will stop rambling and I am 4 year customer of Sprint. I've had issues with them but they were always corrected in less than a day when I call to take care of it. Have a good one and what they are doing by making you stay a customer is wrong and I don't really see how they can do that.

yeah so i was on my moms plan then when she renewed it she dropped my line and my dad pays the bills and it turned out we payed for that line we dropped for like 3 months before my mom found out and they wouldnt refund her, funny the lady at the store "made sure" my line was dropped from the family plan. i have verizon now and my mom is counting every day off of her freaking two year plan with cingular THE NEW AT&T!

I dumped Cingular a few months ago and I don't regret it for a minute. Cingular supports
rodeo cruelty
and is proud to be the biggest supporter of rodeos!
