Hi Augusten !! Just wanted to say hello and say that Magical thinking was my first audio book i had ever bought and i listened to it on my move From Atlanta back to Maine and it made the time fly by and i was hooked on audio books and your books and since have all your books on CD and you reading them is pure perfection !!! thanks for all the hours of entertainment !!!!! take care and be well

when you think you love a stranger, it is so much more intense. even though you barely know them, love is something you can sense. tingles travel down your spine each time you see their face. something as simple as a picture can cause your heart to race.

NOTE: Your book is not a good book to read after one has been in an auto accident.  My innards are a mess.  I decide, when I laugh, I can control my body right?  wrong, I hurt all over again and again.  brahahahahahahahahaha!  You are so worth it.  I try to hold my breath as I read.  Turns out purple is not a good color for me.

I just finished reading You Better Not Cry..I loved it, including the beautiful conclusion. Christmas is my favorite holiday also. I especially loved your Christmas list of acceptable items, level b, and level c gifts. I'm glad that you turned your Christmas disasters into something that we could all love. I look forward to reading more of your books. :D

Seeing you in Portland tonight was so great! Thanks for coming out here! I've been waiting for what seems like forever to be able to see you in person!  The Q and A was way fun, and I thought the girl who spoke about her mother you had influenced in such a positive way was a beautiful story; I'm so glad she talked about it. I can't even begin to imagine how many people's lives you changed. Phenomenal!

Hey Augusten, first of all, of course I only know you from your books and movie, but have always loved the complex simplicity of your life and how you interpret for all of us. Your life has been complicated and interesting....and recently you split with a loved one.... I am in a low place in my life and I really didn't think I could ever end up in this place again.

What do you do when a person who has never lied, never strayed, always been there for you, from day one, they seem to know you the way no one could or ever did........ what do you do when they betray your trust.... do you move on with them and work through it... or just move on with out and try to make a life on your own, knowing that what was...still should be...what went soooo wrong.

My life has so much baggage it is not funny.....and this recent thing just loaded my five foot chest that I must now throw on top of the uhaul of shit im pulling behind me every day of my life.

What to do what to do..... my best friend, my closest friend, my lover, and what seems like my family is lost to me.... one stupid thing changed it all....and I don't know if I can get past it....

I don't have anyone close to me to talk to ..... no one understands or will listen, really listen.... I talk to noone....and for some reason I wanted to just hop on here and ask you...... will you listen...Im not a nut job....just slighty tense and crazy :) ....im tired.....so sooooo emotionally tired..... help

I attempted to send you a private message but for whatever reason it wouldn't let me.  Sad day.  Here's what I was going to say:

I'm not the greatest with emailing anybody out of the blue,
especially those that I'm not entirely familiar with, but at the
suggestion of my boyfriend I thought I'd give it a try.

I know
you hear this a lot, but your books are amazing.  I don't think I've
ever read anything from any other author where the books have stayed in
front of my face for so long and finished so quickly.  I literally read
Running With Scissors in its entirety over the course of a plane trip
from Detroit to LA...generally about 5-6 hours, I believe...and still had nearly an hour after finishing before the plane landed.

Anyway, the
boyfriend knows that I, too, want to get into writing.  Its been a
passion of mine since I was a kid but has somehow fallen to the back
burners.  However, thanks to your books, I feel more inspired than ever
and am planning on writing my own memoir about my first (awkward and
traumatizing) relationships.

If you have any advice for me, I would love to hear it, but I do understand that you're a busy man.

Dear Augusten,

Thank you for accepting my friend request on myspace. I love, LOVE, your books and have read almost all of them, Dry being the most recent. The first was Magical Thinking, my favorite, but after reading your harrowing (and in so many wonderful ways, hilarious) journey in Dry, that book is my new favorite. The book resounds as an inspiration to me. I too write, and hope to one day be published but a constant drip of wine and endless marijuana smoking has kept me in a stable mode of procrastination. I am new to myspace, having opted for facebook a while back, but my friend, Annette (for some reason we call her Helen) told me you were on here, and I could wait no longer to write you.

I had made a decision to stop smoking marijuana and started reading Dry on day 1 while waiting to see my therapist. After reading for a few days I discovered your strategy for mindfully counting the days, and it has helped me in this endeavor tremendously. Today is day 43. As my family drives me insane, and I will be hosting the Chistmas holiday, I cannot even WAIT to start 'You Better Not Cry.' I'll bet it's absolutely delicious!

My dream is to be the director and screenwriter for my own movie.
I
guess its strange to go through myspace to look for hook-ups into the
indie directing crowd, but you're the first person i want to ask for
help. Not too mention, I had a pretty crazy childhood myself that trust me, I really wanna show the fucking world.
I've been writing since I was a kid and i guess you could say I'm creative in my own alien little way.
Anyway yr shit is exactly how i picture my own being if I can get my name out there.

was wondering if maybe you could give me a few tips on how to get
started. give me hints that don't apply to paying for college because I
am an empty piggy bank, always. I always have little jobs with little
pay.
