Why are all the large (old) trees getting cut down around the lake? During the summer they provide a lot of shade for runners, joggers and walkers. I can understand trimming, but cutting them down seems a little drastic. That's just my opinion.

When I first moved to Oakland in 1994, I ran around Lake Merritt every day, sometimes encountering the future mayor going in the opposite direction. I don't live in the Bay Area anymore, but one of the things I miss the most is the Lake.

The Geese @ The lake don't bother me. They seem well-behaved, their not scared of runners, well Me, when I jump over or run near them. The poo', I avoid as I run, just like any other path obstruction. I like the geese, it's nature in the middle of a city. That's why I like Oakland, well, Lake Merritt any ways. I live over the hill from it; a sister by marriage owns a beauty saloon on Grand. I'd buy a house or condo near it if I could find a decent one near it. The birds add character to the lake. They help make a there, there.

There should be marked lanes on the concrete around lake Merrit. People are always hogging the path. When i run i always come across five people walking the oppisite direction. When I run I always straddle the grass and concrete running in the direction as if I were driving in the street. Doing so leaves plenty of room on my left side for walkers and yet they still block my way. It's not like thy don't see me coming. The lake in Fremont has marked lanes for walkers, joggers and runners.
