Towers of London, The Brickyard, Carlisle



Friday night at
Carlisle’s Brickyard saw a parade of leather jackets, tight jeans and
big hair as controversial punk rock band Towers of London headlined.
First on was Psycho Circus who performed a high tempo and enjoyable set but the crowd, didn’t take a great deal of notice, but applauded
in the right places.
With most people seated, the mood seemed fairly subdued as The Exiles came on stage giving a sense of the punk anarchy of old. Lead singer Phil Smith did his level best to entice the uninterested crowd.
The main support group, The Revolution,
hailing from Lowther, near Penrith, launched into an impressive set,
which encapsulated the band’s raw energy and enthusiasm. With upbeat
songs such as Love Shot Down, The Brickyard was soon on its feet and
chanting the band’s name.

Even Towers’ front-man Donny Tourette ventured out from backstage to
watch: “I had to get out there and see their set – they were really
good.”

When the huge-haired quintet of glam-punk rockers made The Brickyard stage, Towers of London were greeted by feverish fans.

Since the band’s arrival on the scene in 2004, various television
appearances have ended badly, making a mockery of their throw-back
style. But firing into hits I’m A Rat and Air Guitar there is no doubt
that Towers are serious about their music, delivering each track at
breakneck pace. Their punk rock hooks and power chords worked the crowd
into frenzy.

At the end of an entertaining and polished set, Tourette petulantly
threw down his mic. Towers of London were so good it was hard not to
