If we're lucky, my family will get even more f-ed up before the show as my brother is joining the police academy! Cop dad, cop brother, nurse mom---- and there's me. There isn't a uniform for what I do.

Back when I was a kid "family hour" meant good, clean entertainment, like "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour," "The Captain and Tennille Variety Show" and "The Sonny and Cher Variety Show Hour." People would sing pleasant, inoffensive songs like "Puppy Love" and "The Ballad of the Green Berets," tell unobjectionable jokes that would make Grandpa chuckle and act in skits featuring bucktoothed Chinese laundry owners, Italian mobsters, Irish alcoholics, black muggers, Jewish accountants, female wives and 40 Hispanics in an Impala. In short, I'm glad somebody has decided to bring back the era of innocent entertainment. Kudos, Sara. Kudos.
