Più precisamente è il Natale del 1977 quando Stewart Copeland apre la sua vasta collezione di dischi reggae al compagno di avventure Sting. Da quel momento intimo di condivisione musicale prende corpo la straordinaria metamorfosi stilistica di una delle band britanniche più popolari di tutti i tempi : i Police. Il chitarrista Andy Summer, di ritorno da una breve pausa di riflessione negli States, trova un suono nuovo, affrancato dai canoni estetici del post punk e innamorato della linea di basso e del battito propri della Giamaica. La Okada Band , formazione originaria di Colonia, a distanza di quasi trenta anni da quella meravigliosa stagione di contaminazione , liquidata allora grossolanamente Reggae’n’ Roll, riallaccia quel filo sottile che ha unito due mondi ritmici così apparentemente lontani. L’etichetta tedesca Echo Beach, dopo un' accurata rivisitazione del catalogo di Sting & Co. mediato dalla rockstar stessa e dalla EMI, ha dato alle stampe “Police In Dub sessions by DubXanne”. I puristi del rock o forse i detrattori del dub dovranno ancora una volta, dopo il progetto per certi versi analogo di “Dub Side of The Moon” del 2004, mettere da parte il proprio scetticismo e ammettere che questo cd riesce a portare emozionanti suggestioni sonore al già largamente osannato caleidoscopio musicale dei Police. La scommessa era forte ma tutti gli artisti che hanno prestato la loro voce a “Police in Dub”, dal leggendario toaster giamaicano Big Youth, a Benjamin Zephaniah campione della dub poetry stile Linton Kwesi Johnson, hanno saputo forgiare piccoli capolavori come “Dubxanne” , “Can’t stand loosing dub” o “Walking on the Moon Dub”. Roots, Jazz e fugaci incursioni elettroniche dal sapore marcatamente dance realizzano un crossover davvero convincente e ben confezionato suonato magistralmente da Okada già backing band della cant
