Good afternoon Mr. Rudd! Firstly, I'd like to thank you for the excellent leadership your government has shown during it's first year in power. Although I have supported you from the start (and so far, I don't think any of your policies have been too ludicrous), I must make comment on your proposed internet filtering.
The young population who has elected you (and you have to admit, you *did* win the minds of the younger population, who subsequently won *you* the election) are more often than not, massively in favor of free-speech.
I realize that blocking free speech is in no way the intention of your Government and that you are doing this in the best of intentions but it *will* have a huge impact on possibly the most "free" form of communication and media in the world.
The vast number of legal and legit websites that will be blocked far outweighs the consequences. This is so similar to communist China it is not funny!
I propose that the government *does* create an internet filter and strongly encourages it's usage however it must be opt-in only! It could still be implemented on the ISP level and all it would take is a simple phone call to your service provider to turn it on/off.
I suggest that the government makes it compulsary for ISP's to offer this service free of charge and on a technical note, you could have a password, set by the bill-payer (ie. the parent) which could over-ride the filter in the event that a legit site becomes accidentally blocked.
The thing that would make this different and more successful than your NetAlert program would be that as it is controlled on the ISP-level only a child/teen could not turn it off or "hack" it!
Thank you for your time and I strongly hope you take my suggestions where possible. I would hate to see this policy lose you the next election as so far, you have proven to be a great leader. Good luck!

its nice to see that people that dont usually have money to spend on things that make life easier have all of a sudden had a taste of things to make them contemplate life on an easier plane if only they jumped on the money train!!

surely you can see the perverbial slipery slope that is internet censorship, like the anti terrorism laws, if you sacrifice freedom for security you will soon find yourself with niether.

Hi Mr Rudd love your work!
Why is the Government is proposing an internet censorship scheme that goes further than any other democracy in the world?
I've just signed a petition to prevent the scheme that will make the internet up to 87% slower, more expensive, accidentally block up to one in 12 legitimate sites, will miss the vast majority of inappropriate content and is very easily sidestepped. The government of the day may add any ‘unwanted’ site to a secret blacklist under the scheme.
Our Government should be doing all in its power to take Australia into the 21st century economy, and to protect our children. This proposed internet censorship does neither. Can you join me and take action on the net today to save the net?

Thanks!

Dear Mr. Rudd
Your doing a fabulous job, I was a little concerned with your fiscal policy and cash expenditure of the cash surplus to pensioners and families, that could perhaps overstimulate the economy after the interest rate cuts but the fact that interest rates will perhaps be dropping again soon means that we perhaps require a little more expansion in the economy, so once again, congratulations on making another good decision, your a champion!
