Way to go on those Los Angeles Times articles, my friend! I'm so glad you are getting so much press! Not just because it helps raise awareness for other unsuspecting patients (or future patients) but because I truely feel your efforts WILL CHANGE this god-awful health care system we all must rely upon! Kudos to you.
Your wonderful articles make my chessy tabloid-esque spot in CHAT magazine look just like a cheesy tabloid!!! LOL! ANYWAY, I TRUELY ADMIRE YOUR EFFORTS, ALICIA, YOU ARE A WARRIOR INDEED! -Doreen

My Happy New Year wish for you
Is for your best year yet,
A year where life is peaceful,
And what you want, you get.
A year in which you cherish
The past year’s memories,
And live your life each new day
Full of bright expectancies.
I wish for you a holiday
With happiness galore;
And when it’s done, I wish you
Happy New Year, and many more.
Many Blessings and Hugs

Thank you!! Today I was told that I don't need Physical Therapy anymore! My determination and unwillingness to accept defeat has brought me to a point where the doctors know that I will go to the gym and do my stretches and make this a non-issue. If anyone is unwilling to do Physical Therapy through all of this, (if they have joints that don't want to stretch,) they are deciding to be disabled for life. If you survive this you are stronger than that. Period.
“Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.” If people do half of what their therapists tell them to do they will be ahead of the game.
Congratulations on you success and thank you!

Thank you soo much for your page and spreading awareness. I had no idea about this sorta stuff and the unbelievable stats associated with sickness and death in hospital care. I'm learning so much more about the hidden truths and stuff in general here on Myspace than I have anywhere else. How sad but hopeful that the world is waking up, getting involved, speaking out and that we have this(Myspace) place to gather support to make the difference!!! We will heal our world yet!!!

Alicia,
I feel like we're kindred spirits, you and I, both getting NF due to the neglectful medical "professionals" here in the San Fernando Valley. I'm so sorry you had to endure what you did. I thought St. Joe's was a better hospital. On the other hand, I always thought that Kaiser Permanente (Panorama City) sucked, ever since my Mom died there in 1970.
Kaiser sent my Dad home with C. diff and MRSA (and no warnings that the rest of us were at risk). After he infected me, Olive View worsened my condition with their "wait and see" attitude. I had to go into end stage multi-organ failure before they'd operate. My friend and my sister-in-law had to step in to do dressing changes and other treatments, much like your wonderful Mom.
Olive View is filthy, too. One day, my dad's suprapubic catheter was leaking as he made his way from the parking lot to my room. When we asked them to mop the floor, they said it was no big deal. I'm 99.9% certain I got infected after coming in contact with his urine. In fact, he was hospitalized soon after with another bad infection and the urologist had to "ream out" the infection from Dad's prostate.
The thing that hurt and freaked me out the most was when I returned (and resumed being my father's caregiver) after my ordeal ... I had to take him to Kaiser 5 days a week so they could monitor his Congestive Heart Failure. I was afraid to touch anything or even sit in a chair. His "entourage" at Kaiser pretended that they had no clue as to how I ever could have gotten Necrotizing Fasciitis and continued to send him home with MRSA, C. diff and other infections.
Dad probably would have lived longer had he never gotten hospital acquired MRSA, etc. I think the constant diarrhea did him in.
My friend and my sister-in-law also caught MRSA because of Kaiser's lack of concern for nonmembers (not that they care all that much more for their paying members)

Wow, what a story! As a hospital worker myself I see this happen all the time. And it's sad to say the hospital acquired infections are mostly little mistakes that nurses or doctors do. I don't know how many times we have had patients that come in for hip surgery and end up with MRSA in the wound. So instead of being in the hospital for 4 days they're in for weeks or months. It's a BIG problem that more people need to know about. Am sorry that this happen to you and am glad that you are letting people know about your story. God Bless.

My people we must continue to stand as one. For as you all know it is together that we are most powerful. It was together that our people fought, went to jail, and even died for our sake. So it is now more than ever that we must stand taller than ever, and keep the fight that they started alive."
