Swami Omkarananda	Dec 20, 2007 5:43 AM As the ocean moves so to does the mind, rising up and falling away like waves in the sea. The ocean requires not that the waves believe in it. Yet, they all dance and sway to its rhythm, always at one with its flow. Rising and falling, evaporating and condensating, solidifying and sublimating, expanding an contracting; yet, still there is only water....one thing manifesting variously, there and there, unified in the singular presence of the here and now. The thought "I" rises up with the mind and recedes again with the mind in the cosmic ocean of pure awareness. The "I" is only a river in the sea. When the wave recedes back into the ocean; only water remains. We take the thinker of the 'I' thought to be a captain, guiding the way of the ship of the body-mind. In awakening, we see that the thinker-captain is not sailing the ship at all. He is a floorboard, built into the ship! The ocean drives the ship, not the captain. The ocean is the true nature in which the ship moves. Is the ocean interested in the affairs of the ship? No, without interest whatsoever it effortlessly moves the ship along. Without the ocean, the ship moves nowhere. Taste that ocean! The stream flows on without requiring that the drop believe in it. The tree grows on without needing the leaf to acknowledge it. When I saw the world, I couldn't see God anywhere. When God was the seer, I couldn't be seen anywhere. In meditation, lover and loved fall away and love remains. In meditation, knower and known fall away and only knowing remains. In meditation, subject and object fall away and only vivid awareness stays. Believing in God is believing in the believer in God. If the believer goes, the belief goes with it. Then only God remains.
