Waiting down from Galilee
by Mike Marcellino

What are we waiting for -
sings a young Nashville girl
in a ballad for MTV.
Waiting down from Galilee.

What are we waiting for -
asks an old man
piloting a ferry boat
to the South China Sea.
Waiting down from Galilee.
What are we waiting for -
peace
work
raise a family
faithfully.
Waiting down from Galilee.

What are we waiting for -
divine intervention
in Tennessee
Vietnam
Gaza
Tel Aviv.
Waiting down from Galilee.

SideStreaming

I want to read poetry
That gets in my eyes,
leaves Holes in the upholstery
Of my mental furniture

I want to read poems
So dangerous for my
Health
a graphic brain
Is exposed and bleeding
On the packet

I want to read poetry so fresh
its juices run down my
fractured lips. Giving way
to a stunned mullet gape
on my stupid face

I won’t find it
In the library, although
There are some very good
Ones, or the shelves
Of the corner dairy,
No.

Reading Side stream
I blink hard, push smoke
from my eyes. Stub out
the failing cigarette
Of academia,
And

inhale,
exhale,
addictive Poetry

Hi, Miriam. I think the "guerrilla" poets mentioned in this article simply give their books away since they want an audience. But I like the chalk idea, also.

So, what's Auckland like? Do tell!

Hi, Side Stream. I think the fiction writer in the article in Poetry Magazine was mostly trying to be funny. I do think it was his attempt at being witty while pointing out some obvious differences between poetry and fiction writing.

I look forward to reading some of your work.

Best.

Did you go to that gig, what was it like? I had to stay home and assist my daughter with her writing and rehearsing.

Did they do a longer set this time? What was the venue like?

Hope you are good any way.

Hi Miriam - thanks - I will dig out some short poems. The Pollock I wrote some time ago (You can use that but it is a bit long) and I had never got onto my PC so I scanned it and then put it on my folder...I'll cobble up a few poems for you to have a look at - have you looked at my EYELIGHT Blog/ project? On Blogger... it needs to be seen as a continuous process rather than as a discrete series as such...Cheers Richard.

while walking the road less travelled,
I came upon a side stream,
words within worlds whorled up
hurling ideas and images
into ear and frontal lobes.
That side stream slipped passed
calming yet diverting me
till I could no longer stand
In the same stream
Once or twice
I strayed, sheared off on a tangent.
Side lined,
beginging again
this time
on the stream
navigable
beside the road less travelled.
