DAVE HOUSE - in some hardcore band or something. plays weakerthansy punk with big choruses. is also a very nice man as it happens.

MY FIRST TOOTH - fancy folk-pop on a full-band tour with a forthcoming ep on alcopop!. that was a lot of 'f's.

WOODERSON - fugazi-meets-shellac quartet of awesome noise. generally fucking amazing live. none more treble.

Vampire Blues is the duo of guitar player Jon Collin (Serfs, The Whole Voyald) and harmonium player Jon Marshall (The Hunter Gracchus, Peril Hill). They have a pretty special tape out on Blackest Rainbow. We can't recommend them highly enough.

The Fifth Band is the gobsmacking trio of Stephen Lawrie (The Telescopes), Bridget Hayden (Vibracathedral Orchestra) and Chris Hladowski (The Family Elan). Oof.

A Wake is the duo of Nick Mitchell and Fliss Horrocks who also play in Beach Fuzz.
This will actually probably end-up being a Beach Fuzz performance - this incarnation's first inside the UK.

THIS SATURDAY!

MORE AND MORE TIGER presents:

Saturday February 7th @ The Packhorse, Leeds

SPARROW AND THE WORKSHOP
Glasgow based trio, sounding like a moodier and more dynamic Slow Club led by Joanna Newsom-esque soaring, folky female vocals. Recent British Sea Power tour support.

www. myspace. com/sparrowandtheworkshop

MI MYE
Wakefield based Scottish songwriter Jamie Lockheart creates a unique sound of wistful melancholy, American indie guitars and folky fiddle playing. Often backed by a Leeds “supergroup” of Forward Russia, The Research and Middleman members, for this gig he’ll be playing a rare solo violin and vocal performance.

www. myspace. com/mimye

AWASH WITH ANTLER
Wonderfully bizarre all-female group, lying somwhere between the vaudevillian madness of Kate Bush, Fiona Apple at her Extraordinary Machine darkest and Bjork’s pots-and-pans-galore experimentation

www. myspace. com/awashwithantler

RED TREES
Achingly beautiful Low-esque vocal harmonies over delicate guitar and glockenspiel beddings.

SPOKES
THE FRENCH QUARTER
THE AMBER SLEEP
@ The Library 12/11/08
£4

SPOKES
Manchester's Spokes will provide this fine evening with mostly instrumental, always captivating post-rock aceness. This is not your average quiet-loud band, they play with an edge of longing and sadness rarely seen in this genre and their 'People Like You Like You' album is indeed a fine piece of work that comes highly recommended. Recent slots at the Big Chill and Rockness festivals prove these lovely peeps are on the march.
http://www. myspace. com/spokessound

THE FRENCH QUARTER
One of Scotland's finest upcoming bands... soon to be up there with The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit. These young gentlemen cross Interpol-esque rhythms with soaring walls of guitar and a melancholy edge for good measure. It's their first time in Leeds so don't miss out.
http://www. myspace. com/thefrenchquarter

THE AMBER SLEEP
This beautiful string-based band centred around Graham Jones' brooding vocals create some quite wonderous acoustic passages. A little Nick Drake and a little Antony and the Johnsons and a lot of heart.

Forest of Sound

Nov 3, 2008 1:38 PM

Hauschka
Having studied classical piano for ten years, Dusseldorf-based pianist/composer Volker Bertelmann's work as Hauschka is based upon a playful exploration of the possibilities of the 'prepared' piano. His resulting tracks are vivid, unconventional pieces made in a spirit of playful research-enthusiasm, which he's taken around the world - in the USA with Múm, in Japan with Colleen, and a debut, sold-out London show with Max Richter. Hauschka's music is a thing of beauty - intertwined melodies and rythyms that flit between gorgeously lush and complex and stunning minimalism.

Gareth S. Brown
With influences as diverse as Eastern European folk music, funeral marches and jewellery boxes, Gareth creates gorgeous work of layered beauty with nods towards Philip Glass, Terry Riley and Michael Nyman as well as latter day travellers such as Max Richter, Yann Tiersen and Aphex Twin.

Saturday: 8/11/2008 @ The Holy Trinity Church, Leeds. Doors 8.30pm.

A Forest of Sound presentation. £5 adv / £7 on the door.

Indietracks was a roaring success and a hoot, both music-wise and badge-selling-wise! And the virtual mixtape was nice thank you, it might lack the DIY goodness and clunks at the end of each track of a homemade mixtape, but it was good to leave on in the background while surfing the world wide web.
Looking forward to the weekend? I should have enough badges on Friday for a little stall if you'd still like me to (although I did almost sell out at indietracks, it was incredible!)
Hope all is well! x
