WEIRDO GUISE PRESENT...
Wavves
Straight outta California on their first ever tour. You’ll feel like a frisky 19 year at some awesome beach party as their blown-out, catchy as hell pop washes into your ears. Touring as a duo, but really the brainchild of some 22 year old, you’ll find Wavves records out on De Stijl, Tic Tac Totally and Woodsist. There’s some Doo Wop, JAMC, No Age stuff going on here.
Pens
Three young girls outta London, who have a real knack for writing total tunes. On tour with Wavves, they also have an LP coming out the on De Stijl in the US following a sold out tape and 7″. Easily one of the best new UK bands.
Mazes
So the new crop of UK bands are here, fitting with all the killer stuff coming out of America right now and these kids have gone and written some of the best songs of the whole bunch. As well as all that stuff and some Pavement, they’ve also got an ear open to the likes of Swell Maps and Television Personalities. From Manchester, this will be their first show.
Hipshakes
Fastest, trashest band you’ll ever see. From their chaotic live show, you’ll just make out some real snappy pop gems under their tinnitus triggering wall of guitar noise. Just out of their teens and have already released an LP - with a 2nd on the way and 8 7″ singles, one on the Black Lips own label, another on an Oblivians Goner imprint - yeah they’re a Garage Punk band!
SAT 28TH FEB. AT THE FENTON, LEEDS. DOORS 7.30PM.

Hello folks! Just wanted to alert you to the final PPY shows before Christmas.
Having a little break here but not before this belter!
The biggest show we've done to date takes place on Saturday Oct. 25th at
The Duchess with Canadian country rockers The Sadies returning to York for
the third time. Taking elements of rock'n'roll, surf, garage, country and sixties
rock and still managing to sound just like The Sadies this band have been
wowing audiences for the last fifteen years.
Garth Hudson (The Band), Jon Spencer, Gary Louris, Neko Case, Blue Rodeo
and Heavy Trash have all guested on their records. They are rather bloody
good live. The Federals are supporting and it's a Saturday night. P.A.R.T.Y. O.N.
Tickets for The Sadies from here.
Come join Please Please You on FACEBOOK here.
Cheers, Joe.

Sic Alps
- San Fransisco two piece setting the bar for bands doing the modern psych/folk/sloptastic JAMC sound. What sets Sic Alps apart from the rest is their unique ability to mash the rough edge of the folk strum, cutting songs with razor sharp candor, and artfully landing somewhere between flowery optimism and filthy regret. Stylistically, they're are all over the place too, incorporating jazzy freak outs, the sincere tinkering of piano keys, and muddy, down-trodden rhythms. Not easily pinned down into a specific sound or genre, Sic Alps reiterate their freedom of form with each successive release. With a musical pedigree second to none, with both members doing time in such outfits as Coachwhips, Hospitals and Total Shutdown. Already notorious for their exciting and energetic live performances, they've released music on Mt. St. Mtn, 777 was 666, Animal Disguise, Woodsist and Skulltones and their new LP has just been released by Tom Lax's legendary Siltbreeze label. So come on down and experience the madness of Sic Alps.
With supports from Leeds' deranged strum and bash trio
THE UPRIGHTS
and Sheffield's kings of manic retardo punk
THE HIPSHAKES
(Black Lips' Die Slaughterhaus label, Goner), this should be a night you won't forget!

Hello folks! Just a quickie to alert you to the forthcoming Please Please You fun we have planned in York.
At The Basement...........
Firstly, Friday night we have a great folk/country/blues show. Time Lag Recording artists Elephant Micah is headlining with his ace lo-fi country-folk songs. He was the recent tour support for Jason Molina which gives you an idea of his style. Last record was described by The Wire as "A beautiful slice of narcoleptic folk that captures the lugubrious nothing-to-do feel of late summer days as well as the slow motion dance of dust in a ray of sunlight." Yup.
Elephant Micah, George Fell, Dallas Boner, The Wayfaring Strangers + Adam Rogowski. Fri. 29th Aug. 8pm, £5.
Also on sale now:
Everyone To The Anderson + Lebanons. Tues. 2nd Sept. 8pm, £5.
(Quality post hardcore from Brighton/Tunbridge Wells!)
Jonquil, This Town Needs Guns + Defcon DJ's. Fri. 19th Sept. 8pm, £5adv.
Lovvers, Calories + Missing Kids, Mon. 6th Oct. 8pm, £5adv.
Helene + Mossyrock. Fri. 17th Oct. 8pm, £5adv.
And at the Duchess............
The Sadies + The Federals. Sat. 25th Oct. 7.30pm, £10adv.

BROKEN ARM
- four dudes from Leeds making garage-rock filled with killer bozo riffs. Their first Bristol show and part of their first tour, they will have their brand new debut EP available at the show, which has come out on Liverpool's Sea records. Members of Broken Arm have previously been in Sailors (gringo), Static Waves, Woman (sea) and Like a Kind of Matador (tumult). Now that's pedigree.
FRINGES
- new band from Bristol with members of Soeza, Line, Headfall and ex-Scarecrows and ex-Murder of Rosa Luxemburg. More sweet pedigree. A tight, jagged, uncluttered, direct sorta sound made by clean-cut squares and scruffy slacks. They are a quartet, with two guitars, saxophone and drums, they keep it instrumental.
COREY ORBISON
- play abrasive, messy, short-sharp, stop-start songs about our cold cold world. Members also in Headfall and involved with the very excellent Local Kid thing.
Check the new tracks up on their myspace!

NISENNENMONDAI (Smalltown Supersound / Japan)
Nisennenmondai are soon to be one of your most favourite bands. Imagine an insane birthday party with Sun City Girls, Keiji Haino and Mika Miko all invited, things are gonna go volcanic, and thats where Nisennenmondai come in! Of all the noisy girl groups of Kansai, are at once the most intense and hypnotic band to run out of the scene. Touring Japan alongside the likes of Death Sentence: Panda!, OOIOO, Lightning Bolt, Hella, Oshiri Penpenz, and Afrirampo. Their pulsing rhythm section and metallic overtoned guitar sound something like a heathen and tranced-out amalgamation of Boredoms, Neu!, Ruins and Leopard Leg.

Hello folks, just a little spam for ya. Thing's are pretty hectic at Please Please You this month as you can see!
Wed. July 2nd. David Karsten Daniels, Burial In The Sky + Boss Caine, The Basement, York, 8pm. £5.
DKD's laest album Fear Of Flying was released by Fat Cat in April and it's bloody marvelous! Look:
"The delirious oboe chorus on ’A Myoclonic Jerk’, the following scuzz-bomb of a guitar attack, the honking horn section on ’That Knot Unties?’, the sliding escalation and sudden stop of ’In My Child Mind You Were A Lion’… it’s all indicative of a sublime musical mind." 9 out of 10. Drowned in Sound
"...a very serious and brave LP, full of grand pronouncements and soaring arrangements." Stool Pigeon
Sat. July 5th. Her Name Is Calla, Glissando + Oh Wow, Meow!, The Basement, York, 8pm. £5.
Tues. July 22nd. Ballboy, Les Cox Sportifs + Over The Atlantic, The Basement, York, 8pm. £5adv.
Tickets available from
www. picturehouses. co. uk
or 0871 7042054. Only 10 minutes from the station!!
Also, I'm very excited to announce a special PPY party at The Duchess in York. Canadian psych, country, garage, surf (!?) outfit The Sadies will be performing one of eight UK shows in October. An exceptional live band that played the third ever PPY show in 2006 we are delighted to have them back.
Sat. 25th Oct. The Sadies + The Federals, The Duchess, York, 7.30pm. £10adv.
Tickets for this show are available now from

I'd imagine a man with a career as irretrievably dead as J. Wozniak's would probably keep a very, very close eye on any potential royalties and, whilst the thought of one Nicholas Bannerman getting sued by a failed post-grunger superstar is kind of entertaining, it might leave me feeling somewhat guilty.
