I'm sorry that you've had such a hard time booking dates for this project. You know that I love it - lots of us do. I'm sure you'll keep creating the music, even if you don't play it live. I hope, at least.

Is there Anybody Listening?


I really do not know what to say here. Well there could be so much from the flowing emotions but I will try to narrow it down.
Some years ago Don Henley (The Eagles) wrote and essay; in it he suggested that if an artist like Johnny Cash had come along at that time that he would have never been discovered. God only knows how Jeff Buckley was found. That was about five years ago and since then things in the industry and field of music have become even worse.
I’m not sure if the problems with getting good music out to the masses is due to; people’s lack of money, downloading, over saturation of musician or those who pretend to be, or just that no one is listening. One thing I am certain about is that it is sad that a brilliant song writer goes unheard.
After hearing the first release from The Reticent I was beyond impressed. By the time of hearing the second effort I was certain that there was and still is something special in Chris Hathcock. I humble myself and apologize for not being able to do for The Reticent what it truly deserves. Though I doubt anyone could do it justice.
I believe it says a lot about an artist and he’s music when people can not classify it or know what to do with it. On the other hand this is also damning to the artist and I think no one knows that better than Chris. I will never forget what I witnessed at the first show I ever saw of The Reticent. Never had I seen a performer capture and hold and audience captivated like he did. Here I could make this colorful with so many poetically woven words but it is unnecessary. For those who have seen The Reticent live they know exactly what I’m saying. Those who never did missed a true work of art that was never finished.
The Reticent’s story strikes me as a tragic paradox…there is no answer for it. Though the music is bleak I believe it is lack of understanding and acknowledgement that makes this tale so sad.
