Y. Definitely Y.

And YAY I'm excited for the hardcore washboard-ness! I think that'll add just the right amount of Extra Sound to our already-established Awesome Sound. Thus, by algebraic rules, this would make it an Extra Awesome Sound. Major kudos to the washboard.

Naturally, with the exception of the rather unpleasant 19-hour Airline Purgatory, this was THE BEST WEEKEND EVARZ.

NO. RLY. THE BEST WEEKEND EVARZ.

Okay. I applaud Pitchfork for being down-to-earth and un-snobbish enough to give two of the greatest albums ever made solid 10.0 ratings. I seriously love both of these albums; likewise, I seriously appreciate that the 'Fork isn't so far gone as to not give the records their due simply to prove their own Critical Importance. Or whatever.

I feel like listening to them again, now. And I want to see Control SO BADLY, but it's not playing here yet.

OMG I KNOW. 23 days. On Friday, it will be THREE WEEKS. Six and a half years vs. three weeks. dsfgdfgh

Fate's making me earn it, though, 'cause school's gonna be a BITCH between now and then (but, and providence smiles down upon me, not so far as I can tell during or around that weekend). So sez skool: "You want tests? Sure, I can give you a couple of those. Big ones, too! And papers? You wanna write PAPERS? Okay, I'll make room for a handful of those, too! And I'll make them all happen within two weeks of each other, bwahahahaha."

However, I think I will find that these not-so-little details will make that time go much, much faster. Which ... AFDSKJFSDH.

Um. ONE MONTH.
Chris

Oct 7, 2007 2:35 PM

I tried to comfort myself with the facts that (A) they only canceled a handful of dates, so it's not like an entire tour went down the pipes due to this "extreme situation"; (B) three weeks -- or however long it is before they start the U.S. tour -- is generally plenty sufficient to recover from the majority of nonmajor illneses. But of course the truth of it is that we'll just have to fidget and sit on our hands and wait in horrendous suspense for an annoucement that may or may not happen. At this point, no news is definitely good news.

I WILL NOT LET THIS HAPPEN, DAMMIT. *violent, fervent head-nod*

I hate studying for philosophy exams. This is why:
The statement p is false is a negation. A negation is true when its component statement is false, and false when its component statement is true. Thus, the statement p is false is true when p is false, and false whebn p is true.

Uh ... yeah. I drove from my house to work. I drove from work to the post office to drop off packages. I drove back to work. I drove from work to my dorm. I drove from my dorm to my friend's house to study. I drove back. All the while listening to RSL. It passes the driving test. I listen differently when I'm driving (because my life depends on the majority of my attention being paid to the road), so it's good to hear it in a different light. And it just works as an album. "Trumpet" is the only thing I haven't gotten to make sense to me yet, but that's a problem child anyway, so it's bound to take a while. Otherwise, this is some brilliant music, and it is a stronger record than SUIAD. And we all know how awesome that one was.

If Spencer Krug and Colin Meloy didn't exist, the music world would be a devastatingly sadder place.

Sep 23, 2007 5:15 PM

Hahaha, in a way I'm actually kind of glad it happened this way. 'Cause you know as well as I that sometimes it's the little things that can make an entire day better. But anyway, YAY! for that.

And I DON'T KNOW WHY WE TORTURE OURSELVES. It's ridiculous. (In all honesty, I'm hoping I haven't built it up too much and thus doomed myself to even mild disappointment. But at the same time, even after a hundred gazillion plays, "The Mending of the Gown" isn't sounding any less effing fantastic. So what the heck. I'm gonna geek like mad 'til 10/9 and hope for the best. Muahahahahahaha.)

Sep 21, 2007 6:21 PM

Haha. What you described is pretty much what I was envisioning anyway. Just cutting it off abruptly wouldn't work -- the song would have to disintegrate little by little, then just die. The effect would be priceless because everyone would be like, "But ...!!!"

And the song itself would have to be effortless. Any good musical ideas would need to be saved for other songs: this would just be a lazy inside-joke gimmick to satisfy the more whimsical side of our Artistic Suck.
Chris

Sep 21, 2007 6:07 PM

Okay. So I was bored in chem this morning and I let my mind wander, and I thought of an amusing gimmick we could do for our show. We write a live-only emo song about procrastination and how "nothing I do is ever complete" and all that, play it, and then just stop halfway through.

"Okay. So, uh, that's pretty much all we've got right now. We haven't written the rest of the song ... I don't even know how the chord progression's supposed to go, and we haven't really practiced it, so yeah. Moving on to the next song ..."

Just a random brain firing.

Just FYI -- I must be ridin' the Inspiration Train right now, because work on my song (tentatively titled "Canyons") is progressing brilliantly. It's like every time I pick up that guitar I discover something amazing that I decide I need to work in there somewhere. Though with all of these ideas, the damn thing'll end up being like 9 minutes long.

And I've even gotten a couple lyrics scribbled down, too (which is where the tentative title comes from, of course). So ... yay!

And I can't wait to hear you play the thing you were talking about last night. As soon as my phone stops being a pain in the ass. (We're supposed to be getting a land line down here real soon, too, so that'll be uber-helpful!)

Sep 5, 2007 7:09 PM

Great Moments in Touch Artists Songwriting, Pt. 1: I noodled a bit more after you got off last night, just following whatever progression sounded good. And it took me a while to realize that, completely naturally and without any effort whatsoever, I had flowed directly from playing one melody to playing the same melody in a different key. It was about this time that I made sure I played it 58986 times to memorize it, and will be writing it down later.

'Cause that's, like, song material, right there.

Sep 1, 2007 4:25 AM

The whole thing is mindblowing in ... mindblowing ways, but I seriously think that last minute (where all that's happening is him going, "wha-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ohhhh") is one of the biggest moments of musical bliss I've had all year. Damn.

And the buzz on the album is good, too. The whole thing is leaked, apparently (of course I won't indulge; you know my stance on that, compounded by the fact that downloading illegally at the U can actually result in me having a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed against me -- no shit), and those who have heard it are raving. (Hell, I'd go out on a limb and say even Pitchfork will rave, and they're hard as hell to put a finger on. At least in terms of what they'll love. It's easy to tell what they'll trash, but often the 8.0+ reviews come out of nowhere. And no doubt they love it that way.)

Eeee love great music.
