All the non understanding closed minded people irritate me.
Eilish.
Apr 23, 2009 3:35 AM
If you only knew what a strangely under cultured place Oregon was.
Eilish.

Missing Santa Barbra is very easy, its more for the people, and the ability to walk places.
Eilish.
Apr 23, 2009 12:27 AM
OH hell ya.. I remember that, some how Nirvana was always on as well, Damn I miss Santa Barbra.

And there ARE no more Greek riots. They lasted a couple of weeks and then they died. Of course they're having limited financial effects that may seem large considering the entire WORLD is undergoing major financial struggles due to the recession, but other than that, the Greek government is hardly faltering. It will recover, the riots will start again (at some point), and the government will recover again. This is how it works. The police are TRAINED to stop violence from being effectively carried out against the government. They are not trained to stop people from not buying shit they don't have to buy, etc. You've heard my stance on that.
Also, you realize that the French rioters in that article were rioting to BECOME a part of the system, not to destroy it? All of the "benefits" they gained were in order to go to college, pay for houses, stuff like that. Of course the government is going to buy into their riots- they WANT to indoctrinate people into that world. Furthermore, the article draws a correspondence with the American and French revolutions. Uh, first of all, the French Revolution did NOT give way to a better form of government. Second of all, the fight for American independence has NOT given way to a better form of government. There are many other aspects of the article I would argue, but it's 11:16 and I don't feel like I need to further prove my point. The article is right about one thing: wars ARE basically just massive riots. People kill people and blow shit up for what they believe in. Some concept, same effect.

1. Never heard of the fur coat thing, I'll have to look into it. As for the people breaking in to destroy stuff at the animal testing centers, you DO realize that animal testing STILL happens. Yes, the rioting diverts them momentarily, but that's what I'm saying: rioting only has a momentary effect! In the long-run, it has no power, and it can't end injustice permanently.
And labor unions? Really? Labor unions got people KILLED when they rioted- KILLED. And they had just as much peaceful protesting going on, and it was just as effective and had just as much of an impact: in fact, labor unions were mainly ORGANIZED through peaceful protest So labor unions are not a good example if you want to convince someone like me that rioting is helpful.
3 (Yes, I skipped 2). Conflict is actually completely avoidable, it's just that people assume they must encounter conflict and therefore they do. But moreover, I have nothing against conflict itself in terms of it coming up: it's just that rioting is not a SOLUTION to conflict, it only exacerbates conflict by creating more of it. You don't have to fight fire with fire. In order for conflict to exist, people must participate in it. If the powers that be want to create conflict with us, but we refuse to engage them, then the conflict dies because it can't be sustained by one side. It's like football: one team and a field doesn't make a game. It's pretty much that simple.
Eilish.

Ya.. Oasis, an interesting word.

"This guy"'s argument is flawed on several levels. To begin, riots have ALSO been going on for decades and decades, and they have never been effective either. Secondly, "it just doesn't work that way" is not an argument, it's an opinionated statement that has no basis. Historical research SHOWS that riots just don't work. Historical research does not show that the same is true for peaceful protesting- quite the opposite. However, the biggest problem with "this guy"'s argument is that it is presumptuous in immediately assuming that if you are against rioting, the only other method of protest is to stand around holding a sign. WRONG. Other methods of peaceful protest include, but are not limited to, boycotts (which have the same desired effect as riots, actually, but without the police having an excuse to beat or arrest anyone), sit-ins, hunger strikes, all sorts of things that HAVE gained attention. Peaceful protesting actually DOES work- Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr.- again, I can list endless examples of successful peaceful protesters. And yet "this guy", based on no evidential standing, claims that it "just doesn't work that way". History speaks a different story. Besides, what is "directed" property damage? Directed at what? The thing is, rioting HAS to hurt someone- but not everyone riots for the same reasons, and not everyone is always on the same side. How would that guy like it if some rioter came up to him and punched him in the face to break his glasses because they don't like the factory that produced them? There is no "directed" property damage- it's just property damage, one way or the other, and some people may blow up corporate buildings, and some people may blow up houses, and some people may blow up cars owned by people who have nothing to do with whatever they're protesting. The end result is the same: someone gets hurt, conflict persists.

you must never really run out of things to do.
haha.

kyla.
Mar 8, 2009 8:02 PM

so there isn't really much to do..
hannah.
Mar 8, 2009 7:34 PM
The dance was pretty fun,
but really ironic for me as a feminist.
The DJ was also really weird,
he said stuff to go along with the songs
but I felt like some of that should not be repeated...
kyla.
Mar 7, 2009 7:30 AM
sounds eventful.
yay, old jewish people.
...and mixing them with stand up comedy.
hah.
hannah.
Mar 7, 2009 2:40 AM
Well that's not so bad.
I had a quiet afternoon. It was pretty nice.
kyla.
Mar 6, 2009 5:48 AM
nigel!
what's up?
hannah.
Mar 6, 2009 3:16 AM
Hahaha!
My parents are imprisoning me again.
I am not allowed to celebrate my friend's birthday party.
I am not allowed to hang out with you after school. So no Say Anything.
:(
Hehe you said, "I love you to Hannah." I think that means that you love me to my full extent. Which is pretty big.
:]
hannah.
Mar 5, 2009 6:20 AM
Haha love you Nigel.
hannah.
Mar 5, 2009 5:59 AM
Hahaha when I was little I thought Phil Collins and the Police (Sting) were the same person.
I wouldn't use the word funny. I would use...Delilah-esque.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I probably wouldn't use that either. But she really bugs me sometimes..
You could be Nigel Robles instead of Lloyd Dobler and play a different song...hm..I'm not sure what though.
hannah.
Mar 5, 2009 5:29 AM
It'll be good. I know it! And if not, tell me about it.
The girl having the song on her iPod is funny? Or the song itself is funny?
hannah.

How exciting! I remember my first real solo. Completely nerve racking.
:D What song would you play me?
hannah.
Mar 5, 2009 4:34 AM
?
Haha that would be funny, I'd like to hang out.
I might have something to do so I'll let you know.
hannah.
Mar 5, 2009 4:22 AM
If you want lessons, you know who to call. But I'm assuming you don't. I don't really like them..
You have a performance? For what?
I am good. It's weird though. I don't really have homework. So I feel kind of bored. Like..procrastination is really occupying, time-consuming and pointless really. And now that I don't have to, I feel like doing the same activities isn't as fun..haha!
hannah.
Mar 5, 2009 4:08 AM
Ahaha!
I got you cool presents. I have like...5 things to deliver. Haha.
How're you tonight?
hannah.
Mar 4, 2009 6:14 AM
We rented that a long time ago, I never got to watch it! I knew I heard that name before.
That's good. My first camera flash battery died, but sometimes it revives itself. I think it might be from all the bonfires I went to in freshman year. It's very weird..
I don't know when you'll get this comment,
but I'll be going after school, probably around 3 or 3:30. So you could look around at that time if you want. I'll probably call you.
:)
hannah.
Mar 3, 2009 7:15 AM
I dunno, magnolia, carp, you choose!
The Quiet Man is an irish comedy made in the 50's. It's about this boxer who killed someone in the ring so he retires to where his family was born and marries a hot redhead but her brother doesn't wanna pay her dowry...
It's pretty sexist in some scenes but I still like it.
Your headphones broke? :(
