Just saw this on the Library's homepage -- hopefully the library can do it again soon!

Food for Fines

Thanks to all of you who donated food for our "Food for Fines" program! Your generous donations provided the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank with 770 pounds of food - enough to provide over 4,000 meals for people in need during the holiday season. And, since this was a "Food for Fines" opportunity, our patrons also eliminated approximately $1,000.00 in overdue fines by donating food.

A very sincere thanks to all of you! Happy Holidays --

The Charles Von der Ahe Library staff

Hi Jordan, thanks for the comment about the new library! (I'm Ken, one of the librarians at LMU.) Lots of stuff in the works. Better, and more, computer resources. More plugins for laptops. Events (gaming nights, maybe?). A cafe right there in the library. We're still deciding on our hours and planning more cool new things, so check back on our page for announcements!

Hey...yeah the new library is going to be pretty trippy. What other kinds of stuff will be available (other than books)?

Your page is really wonderful. I sent the virtual flyover video to my family so they could see where I donated.
Thanks for the info!

Colum, you make an excellent point. We are indeed pursuing LEED certification for the new William H. Hannon Library! If you scroll up on this page and look at our blog, you'll see a brand new entry about this.
We'll also add a statement about LEED to the New Library section of our website. Certification isn't actually granted until the building is complete. Once that happens, we'll have a lot more to say on the matter. Stay tuned!

Hi! Since you asked, I think it would be great for you to highlight the fact that the new library will be LEED certified - what that means, the new technologies, the environmental friendliness of the new building, importance, etc. As someone directly involved in battling to get LMU to pursue LEED, now that we made the commitment we should embrace the 'bragging rights' that come with it! Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Hi Carissa,
We hear you! In fact, having an up-to-date facility is one of the reasons we're building a new library. Yes, we will be laptop-friendly. We don't want to be like one of those bookstore cafes where everyone's fighting for one outlet!
As for Friends of the Library -- Friends are donors who help keep the library and its collection strong. Anyone can donate and be a Friend of the Library; in fact, all graduating seniors can get a free one-year Friends of the Library membership. More info at:
http://www. lmu. edu/Page32126. aspx.

omg, i freakin cnt wait for the new library nor the 20-year plan!! bt seriously, please make sure there are plenty of working electrical outlets on every floor because the von der ahe library lacks that. thanks.
also, what does "friends of the library" mean? so that's not for students? well, awesome floor plan!

Hi! I'm one of your friendly neighborhood LMU librarians. Some of you have been asking what this page is all about. Well, this is a place for you to get in touch with us, find out what's new, and to access our IM chat reference and catalog. Once in a while we'll send out a bulletin with news worth knowing.
Stay tuned -- and let us know what you'd like to see here! :)
