We put them all up on our shoulders, pushed them up as far as we could so that they could pop through the ceiling of the glossy music and entertainment of the day, like in Horton Hears a Who when the little people say, “We are here, we are here, we are heeeere!” And some of them broke through. Some of them were heard. Some had careers and continue to have careers. The Replacements did not. The Replacements came like a comet, flamed out, and left the rest of us breathless, elbowing each other with “did you just see what I saw?” and vowing to tell anyone within earshot why they were special.
