Tip van Bob	May 4, 2009 12:07 AM Tim Hecker – An Imaginary Country Yes, another review from the mighty Kranky label. No, I am not getting paid by these guys, but the fact is that they have just released another massive piece of music, the brand new Tim Hecker. And it happens to be on Kranky, so together with Jonas Reinhardt we have two outstanding releases in a short period of time. An Imaginary Country… could be the title of some crap new age cd, but in this case it is not of course. Right from the start you get the picture by closing your eyes and let the music enter your brain. Paint your own landscape with the bright and sparkling electronics . These sounds are mostly just wonderful, like in the opening and closing track. In those two pieces it’s like Hecker is using a mellotron, and combined with the orchestral tones from synths and laptop he creates a remarkable atmosphere. Sometimes the sounds get a little harsher, but nowhere over the top. Gloomy and melancholic are the keywords here, in the track “Borderlands” even sad….hard to keep your eyes dry. The epic piece “Where Shadows Make Shadows” is, with it’s more than eight minutes long, the most outstanding track. Threatening, beautiful, throbbing, gloomy, all in one piece. And at the end as I said, that mellotron sound again, shivering! Up to now Radio Amor was my favourite Hecker, but I just discovered a new one, An Imaginary Country. Get this if you are into fascinating, original and moody electronics and make your own imaginary country, you won’t be disappointed.
