I'm curious about what the massers who rode today thought about the Mass. I'm gonna go ahead and say, in my useless opinion, great route, too fast.
About one-third of the group got split from the main group because the pace was too fast on Oleander. I thought the point was for the group to stay together. Instead we got spread out over about a mile, and cars were pulling out onto Oleander in between riders.
And while I'm whining, the bike path on Eastwood is mostly alright (except the huge soft sand trap!) but I think a Mass should stay on the road, especially when there's an outside lane for cars to get past.
Still, any Critical Mass is a good Mass, and thanks to the guy who was leading for the great route.

So perhaps there should be a video camera at every critical mass now, and here's why:
The cop SHOVED this kid over, and then the cyclist gets held in jail for 26 hours, charged with attempted assault and resisting arrest. Until the tape got out...then the cop lost his job.

October 31 Mass. Great Mass, with great riders!
Patchwork Girl, I'll leave a message here about how to get the tee-shirt transfer.
Banana: Sorry you had to "peel off" early.
Alex from "A Clockwork Orange": Come and have one in the yarbles. That is if you have any yarbles!
Mormon Missionary Boy. Please pass by my house, unless you want to leave a copy of The Book. It's pretty trippy.
See y'all next month.

Sadly, I have to report that, ticket sales for the Bread and Puppet show being so incredibly low, the show tomorrow night has been canceled, as has the kid's show on Saturday, but at least they got to do a show for school kids today. They're awesome, and rightfully angry (politically,) but not really as cool as BYOH, inasmuch as I have to say they aren't looking for worthy work to do as opposed to being really public about their complaints (basically, "All forms of government suck" and "All Capitalism sucks") whereas you cats took the route of Food Not Bombs, Critical Mass, and the Really Really Free Market.
I loved their show. So did the kids, who didn't understand the political stuff, they just laughed their butts off at the dancing pigs and the cooks on stilts and such. The teachers were more than a little freaked out, though.
But in the end, playing to an audience of 5 or 10 people tomorrow night isn't fun for the act or the audience. Plus the Barn Raisers are the free concert at the Riverfront Park tomorrow night. How could I guarantee my co-workers and the company that IF the Mass moved in the direction of downtown tomorrow, and IF they might be mildly interested in seeing these awesome neo-hippy anarchists, and IF they didn't decide to go to the Barn Raisers show instead, we MIGHT have an audience?
Now I'm going to get very buzzed and plan mine and my bicycle's costumes.
Really sorry for putting you all through hoops, and again I appreciate everything you do.
See you at the Bell Tower.

I'm going to ask the Bread and Puppet folks for some cool chit to adorn my bike!
If you're downtown, ride by Thalian Hall's back parking lot to see their awesome Circus Bus, "Bluebird"
Steve in a Tree(house)

Because Thalian Hall loves bicycles and their riders, and the Politically Active, we are offering a special treat for Halloween tricksters who ride this Friday. (Costumed or not, but wearing a costume is a definite plus for this radical show!) I've gotten permission to pass out flyers to all CM's offering a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer to the very left-leaning performance by the (in)famous Bread and Puppet Theatre, taking place immediately after the ride at 8:00 at Thalian Hall. The ticket price is only $10 to start off with, so if you use the flyer, you and a fellow-rider or friend will get in for only five bucks each. Plus we're working on a beer special at the concession stand. This is also available to Be Your Own Hero folks. If you're not going to ride Friday, mail me through MySpace or at scoley@thalianhall.org to find out how to get the deal.
We'll have a safe inside place for your bikes after the Mass. I know this assumes that the ride will go through downtown, and I don't want to lead anybody anywhere route-wise, but hey, hitting downtown seems to be okay with most people.
But there's more! You can actually perform with Bread and Puppet (if you have the time!) Not only at the Hall, but in Innes Park (across from the County Courthouse)on Friday and at the Farmers Market on Saturday, November 1. For more info on B&P, The show Friday night (called "Storm Office") and how to hook-up to performing, click this link:
http://community. icontact. com/p/thalianhall/newsletters/news/posts/perform-with-bread-puppet-ages-13
Please note that the show Friday is the 16+-only show. The very cool kids show, called "The Sourdough Philosophy Circus" is at 3:00 on Saturday.
Sorry for the shameless plug, but you guys are great, and deserve something cool. And maybe this isn't just preaching to the choir, there might be some right-leaning CM cyclists in here as well!
