no, but i did win a contest for a lifetime supply.

on its own i'd say it was great, but given the circumstances i think it was a tremendous misdirection of aggression and a rather futile pursuit. i mean hell, they didn't even stick a rag in the gas tank and blow the thing up. they just flipped a cop car and thought it made them revolutionaries. didn't do a damn bit of good at correction any injustice and it didn't end any oppression.

You might want to look at "The Black Book of Communism". I think you'll find the credentials of the authors worthy of respect and the research within more than respectable. You might find the number 100 million disturbing. Speaking of stale, the gesture of offhandedly dismissing advocates of liberal democracy's disdain for communism is similarly old hat. You act as if the communist's take on things (if one can divine some coherent program from the tangle) is some preordained truism. Watching some Marcuse-ball-washer or some Marx-fellating-flunky or some Adorno-asslicker or some Althusser-rim-jobber actually debate with a learned economist is a spectacle of embarrassment. Yes, things are fucked up and those ignorant lesser-than-yous enjoy mass culture and fancy themselves happy. Prosperity reaches where before there was deprivation. Suffering declines. God forbid.

erica says "andre the viking needs to get bitchsmacked. i'll throw down, get hyphy in the yay area" at which point i pointed out that her open-handed slap is nothing compared to a viking's axe. figured you should know. she just doesn't understand the chappelle show.

14000/year isn't all that less than i make now. damn hard if you're gonna try and live on your own, but probably doable with roommates. i'll send the corndog pimp (friend of mine from school) a message and see if he has any recommendations for living cheap in the yay area.

Toeing the poverty line for sure. That's ludicrously underpaid for the Bay. Rent alone on the cheapest studios hovers around a grand. Your best bet is to find roommates to share a house with if you're gonna move out there. I can ask around if you're serious about taking it; I have a ton of buddies there. On the plus side, the Bay Area rocks and there's a lot of familiar people to hang out with. Way better than the boondocks of WA. Go with your gut; you'll be fine wherever you end up, hon.

Well, it sounds exciting! And hey, the hick factor only sweetens the deal in my professional opinion. You know I'll drive up to see you wherever you're at if I have the time and $$$. Plus, you'd have all the more reason to need cool peeps up there if it's got Wino beat :) It's not THAT much further away, is it?

Speaking of the good life, dare I plan to drive up? The next couple weekends might be tough, but then work should ease up. Let me check my schedule and let you know possible dates.

I wouldn't have written that unless it was statistically unimpeachable. And it is. I do feel slightly mean.
As for my intellectual endeavour, well the last book I read was "Raising Hell: The Reign, Ruin and Redemption of Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay" so I'm still ahead of the pack of rampaging geeks...
Now where did I put my fresh Walker Wear gear?
Also the American mortgage issues are really driving up interest rates over here.

I have heard things against Against the Day, rumors of mediocrity, hushed talk of disappointment, whispers of a letdown. Hopefully, you will find otherwise. Josh Willey liked it, but he also liked Babel, which disqualifies him in my book (so to speak). Ben-Bob hated it. Theo liked it o.k. The mere fact that such a range of opinion exists for a Pynchon book is surely a bad sign for it.

Your profile song is not what I would expect. Don't get all emo on me now.

Another year at Reed, where the childrens' cognitive capacities continue their downward spiral.

I am living at the Farm House, a newly purchased Diver acquisition, across the street--more or less-- from the fruit stand on 28th. There are huge holes in the screens and spiders the size of small dogs have been making their way in recently, terrifying me.

I just ate at the Jolly Roger with Vance.
Anton is now a hipster in Brooklyn (or at least he will be, even if he doesn't know it yet).

BigBaby VanDusen is making noises like he might be moving out here. We need more unashamed ball-scratching around here. So such a move bodes well for our future.

After Pynchon you really should read "Blood Meridian".

So, tonight the Owl made an appearance. This proved to be serendipitous, as a beer garden had been exhausted of its supplies moments before the stone hooter jumped onto the scene, ensuring a level of inebriation of the student body which had the potential to bring out the latent viciousness of the sons and daughters of the privileged Left. And this it did. I must say, I've seen many owl battles, and this one may rank as the finest, lengthiest and most brutal.
Highlights in no particular order:
1) A girl getting knocked out, having some sort of seizure, and ambulances and fire truck showing up, all the while mob of students brawling without regard for potentially dead girl mere feet away.
2) Owl on fire
3) car 1 on muddy, rainy front lawn- air released from tires by vandals
4) fistfights breaking out like acne on a tweener
5) car 2 on front lawn- tires slashed with knife- outraged students fistfights slashers
6) multiple cars blocking all possible exits
7) kid with baseball bat wrapped in ducktape indiscriminately hitting bystanders
8) endless, vicious, 3 1/2 hour tug-of-war for owl
9) Randall being one-man-army, creating havoc, fighting freshman girls, ass hanging out of pants
10) yet more fistfights, including girl/girl and even girl/boy
11) CSO getting virtually knocked out by random kid
12) kids playing bagpipes, accordions at random moments, standing within circle of violence/struggle, a cappella groups spring up
13) fat, drunk, bespectacled, exceedingly dorky freshman high-pitchedly screaming quotes from Iliad throughout the night while doing an impressive (seriously) job of attacking without logic or loyalty to any side in owl battle, belly jiggling
14) hundreds of kids involved, reckless, elated
15) smoke bombs, firecrackers everywhere
16) obnoxious, pseudo-pacifist Reedies urging everyone to stop the violence, being ignored or even better personally derided by others
17) heroin-addict freshman brandishing knife to senior and claiming
