It was a nice blend of very serious issues yesterday, mixed in with some pretty ridiculous Republican antics. I hope you will keep discussing Afghanistan. You are right to ask who is leaking information from The White House. We are hearing about cables being sent to the President and an outraged McCrystal expressing his frustrations with opposing viewpoints. The cascade of information coming our way makes the President's decision making process and his advisors seem scattered and unsure.. I don't believe that is the case at all. I think maybe Obama has finally realized this is the wrong war for America to be involved in. Maybe if we had gone after the right people for 9/11 we wouldn't be going through all this now... seven years later. The President has some very consequential decisions to make. Women's rights were compromised in order to buy votes for a health care bill that does not even contain a robust public option. How does that help the democrats in 2012? I believe they are hurting themselves. I know still can be fix. I posted a great article from "The Nation" at my blog. "Six progressive complaints about the health care bill". I hope you get to read it. I don't see where the bill includes strong regulations to prevent insurance companies from raising their premiums, and, even worse, they'll gain customers if purchasing health care becomes mandatory. How does that reduce the cost? Thanks for listening.

♥Kimmie Rae♥	Nov 13, 2009 12:58 AM OOPS!!!! chris. it occurred to me that i used faulty #s in my previous post. 304 million is the total US population (2008). according to wiki-answers, women makeup 51% of that total population. since men are not the ones who get pregnant, it is the women i must calculate & not the whole. when you use the highest # on record -- the 1.43 million abortions in 1990 -- it's about .008% of the total female population who sought the service. based on the most recent # on record -- 820,151 abortions in 2005 -- it's about .004% of the total female population who sought the service. i just heard you say richard engel was going to report tonight. at one time in my life i wanted to be a foreign correspondent but life took me in another direction. i admire richard and his bravery. what he does and how he does it gives his reporting some poignant insight.

♥Kimmie Rae♥	Nov 13, 2009 12:58 AM hi chris. i must say that i agree with linda's comment. i admire your moxie on most issues but i don't know how i'd fare as a guest on your show arguing for womens' freedom of reproductive choice AND the need for healthcare reform. you have made my jaw drop more than once in the past 3 days in the debates about this issue. yes, abortion is a very heated & passionate issue. i tend to think more rationally about the subject, as i've stated before. with a population of 6 billion & growing on a planet really only made to sustain 3.5 billion comfortably, i believe we should concentrate on those who are here on this earth living and breathing the air. there are many neglected children in this country, somehow lost through the cracks because people just want to fret about the new babies. it's an irksome trait in humans ... "in with the new & out with the old." people need to be realistic and quit acting like women go out in droves to get abortions like they do getting their hair and nails done. i looked up some statistics and found that (according to the best #s out there) .005 percent of the women in this country seek abortions annually. that is based on the CDC's highest # of annual abortions at 1.43 million in 1990. (the last stat listed in 2005, with 820,151 abortions). with the population (according to U.S. census 2008) topping more than 304 million in the country, the proof is in the math that abortions aren't as rampant as the extreme right-wingers would lead us to believe! also, i am anti-war yet my tax dollars pay for the killing of countless thousands of living and breathing human beings trying to live a decent life on this planet earth. if it were up to me, i'd opt out of that one. thanks.

The Stupak amendment goes much further than that and you know it. You are biased on this issue and if you cannot separate your moral views from what the real issue is ~ making it more and more difficult for women to have control over their LEGAL reproductive rights ~ then perhaps you should recuse yourself from commenting on this issue in the future. I admire you greatly, Chris, but sometimes you are just plain wrong.

I would just say one thing about 9/11. For a few days after the tragedy we were all just human beings who were hurting and joined together in our grief as one nation- while the compassion of the world watched and hurt with us. There were no color lines, party lines or picket lines. Why even go to that judgement place to say that there are more Republicans or more Democrats who are truthers? It's ridiculous! No device has yet been invented, no opinion pole taken to tell us whether there are more Republicans following Glen Beck and his ilk, or a few Democrats who still believe that George W. Bush had something to do with the attacks. (Utter nonsense to both of those ideas! There are people on both sides and in between) the fray of the two parties that have gone off the deep end with conspiracy theories and bunk. I would hope to God that both the Dems and Pubs also have intelligent, compassionate souls who have not forgotten that grief is a human emotion, not a party emotion. Let us get past this divisive talk and move on to work toward finding common ground, not lines in the sand. Thanks Chris. xx

Gemma	Oct 25, 2009 8:01 PM I'm hoping a full investigation is done in the case of the presume innocent man from Texas that was put to death by Governor Rick Perry. Somebody needs to ensure errors in the case are exposed and made public. This is serious business. We are dealing with the life of a innocent human being. If the investigations end up showing that any of these discrepancies were overlooked we must hold those responsible. This is my problem with capital punishment, the possibility of errors, lack of fair legal representation that ends up punishing the poor, and is not effective in controlling crime.

America is finally, under Obama, being recognize a part of the international community, and as a diplomatic nation and not as egotistical cowboys, with an appetite to kill. mez	Oct 14, 2009 5:37 PM I live in the New Orleans Metro area. That woman you had on was so inarticulate and uninformed I had to write. Yes the levee's have to some degree had an effect on the wetlands, but are not the culprit here. The petroleum companies had sliced and diced the wetlands for their own use, doing more harm than most. Then of course, The Corpse (as we like to call them here) of Engineers had built a monster called MrGo. From the time of it's planning stages until it acted as the highway for the enormous surge from The Storm to race into the city and caused the flooding and since, the citizens here have protested it. MrGo went a long way to destroying the wetlands and was the cause of the flooding of New Orleans. Katrina didn't flood New Orleans, The Corpse did. They resisted closing it, and there it sits still, waiting to enable another surge to hit the pathetic storm walls they have erected instead of the levees. On top of that the Obama and the Democrats have given pittance towards wetland restoration in their recent budget. It was said that if the money that was made available to New Orleans after Katrina was about a million dollars per homeowner (or person?), but most of us saw pittance. I guess the politicians working with their friends the developers were too busy exploiting the situation to notice. An Independent, I was for Obama, donated to and voted for him. But at this point he is looking like more of the same old, same old. Why is he even bothering to visit New Orleans, four hours does not even begin to scratch the surface of the ongoing problems here. And while no fan of Vitter, the reason he will likely be re-elected is because he at least attempts to communicate with his constituents, as opposed to Mary Mary Quite Contrary write you a letter saying things could be better and in return get a f'ing form letter.

mez	Oct 14, 2009 5:36 PM This morning Chris Todd, in response to reactions of youth to having to buy health insurance, compared it to having to buy auto insurance. One chooses to drive or not, and in places like New York many people never drive. Imposing the demand that all living citizens buy health insurance is a totally different animal. Instead of having a guy like Todd, who usually adds a lot on issues, perhaps you should have had a young struggling artist or actor for whom a demand that they buy health insurance would have a very different outlook. This will be an onus to those who are not living as comfortably as Chris Todd. Or asking those of us who have had our lives destroyed, or been screwed after disasters like Katrina or those who have suffered from the cleanup of the WTC to be forced to give money to those Evil, Greedy Bastards is Change We Cannot Believe In. If this becomes law, The Evil Empire Death Panel Industry should give the Democrats a Lifetime Achievement Award. Who would have thought that Obama and friends would become insurance salesmen. Beyond belief!

♥Kimmie Rae♥	Oct 7, 2009 8:40 PM hi chris. i've had to take a break from the internet for a while to deal with my own downward slide in life. currently unemployed because of the california state budge crisis and currently battling my insurance company for "quality of life" issues that really don't rank in the grand scheme of things, i've learned how quickly things can turn. i tell my husband we are all one major illness or accident away from homelessness. yeah, i am one of the insured -- or should i say UNDER-insured. when i really NEED this insurance, which has again changed hands, i am sure i'll but up the creek without a paddle. i am proud of wendell potter for getting out there in force about the situation these days. good for him! keep putting the pressure on these guys.

When you have two people running for President saying they want to drastically reshape the economy, free marketer's were skeptical. I love how the media made no mention of President Bush being the first President to have an MBA. But that is what my feeling is. Why do you think Obama's rhetoric changed from being so negative about the economy to positive? He knew his rhetoric was harmful. What is going on when the hate for another party or person looms larger than the spirit of patriotism on which this country was founded? Have we fallen so far that the unity and pride we once had as Americans has been replaced with self serving spite and resentment? It really saddens me to know there is a fairly large group of people out there that want us to fail because they don't like the President. No matter how much resentment I felt toward Bush, no matter how obtuse he may be, I NEVER wished failure or harm on our country just because I felt he was a miserable leader. If a terrorist attack happened here on Obama's watch would they cheer as well? Would they thump their chest with simian exaltation because they could then say "We were right about the need for torture, right about the "war on terror", right in our smug zealotry; the delegitimizing remarks we've intimated while hiding behind the overbearing unctuousness we lavish on our own party's star players"? Considering all the lies from the right on pulling the plug on grandparents and death panels, I was stunned to see so many senior citizens, and glad to know they are not buying their lies. I heard stories from a lady that her 17 year old daughter died after CIGNA delayed her liver transplant, and other insurance denying coverage to clients with stage four cancer. My friend had a sign "HONK FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM", and it was a constant nonstop honking from cars, including bus drivers. Our last stop was CIGNA. We were there for about ten minutes yelling: "CIGNA WE KNOW YOUR GAME AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED". I hope you can encourage your viewers to attend more of these rallies. It's important our voices are heard. Thanks Chris.

Unfortunately, this was not the focus. We must be careful here and not make the same mistake over and over again, in chasing all sorts of problems. Then patting ourselves on the back. If we really want to help our kids, then all must center in on making the public system as good as the best private school. Look, if you really want to revolutionize, there are good people out here who have been left behind. Listen to us!
