I Draw Slow are playing Downstairs in Whelans of wexford st, Dublin on the 4th of Feb, we'll be supported by the amazing Blood Red Mountain Band which should make for an unforgettable night. Hi there PF & HBI

Well in an idle moment I decided to record a cover of Aerosmith’s classic power ballad ‘What It Takes’ (from their 1989 album Pump, also featuring such immortal cuts as ‘Young Lust’ and ‘Love In An Elevator’). This isn’t some kind of knowing, ironic cover like when a band does a Britney Spears song or something – I genuinely love the song (well, I used to anyway), although I have attempted to divest it of some of its undeniable cheesiness. Mind you there’s only so much you can do with lines like “Your love made me a prisoner, yes my heart’s been doin’ time”…

This will probably be up on the myspace page for only a short time as, technically speaking, we don’t have Aerosmith’s *actual* permission to use it. I’m also told this type of thing runs contrary to some kind of arcane myspace regulation…?

For the purposes of comparison here is the original in all its big-haired glory, complete with one of the greatest (by which I mean shittest) videos ever:

Given that current technological difficulties dictate that we can record no new music, a “new” old song has been posted. Just a demo really but if you like seven minute long, funereal slowcore dirges then you may just dig it. It’s called ‘This Desert Life’.

Amnesty International volunteers are descending again on the Electric Picnic armed with funky postcards, fair trade teas, coffees and yummy food. Visit the Freedom Café and Action Centre to chill out and listen to our fabulous DJs spinning tunes.

This year our activism will focus on the need for Irish skies to remain ‘Torture Free Skies’. Irish airspace should not be used for the transfer of individuals to or from secret detention centres or Guantánamo Bay. We will also be campaigning against the death penalty in Japan, to protect women human rights defenders in Zimbabwe and for justice for the people of Darfur.

Watch out also for our free text petition for Darfur, unique one-off Electric Picnic t-shirts and our super cool Instant Karma albums.

Hugely supportive festival goers signed all 16,000 of the postcards from last year in less than 48 hours! Two thousand, two hundred people signed the SMS petition to close Guantánamo and a whopping 22,000 people participated in the Big Toast – the largest ever single venue toast “to freedom”!

Help us make this year bigger and better!!!
