Dear Allen--your profile quote shows that for once, you misunderestimated. I wish I had seen you in Prague, crowned King of May Day.
I will always remember meeting you at Columbia [25th anniversary of Howl]where you recited your poetry--sang a little, too. Peter O. was wearing, I believe, a tan smock like thing. You were looking like a real professor, but you were drenched in sweat after. I was a poor student, and didn't have money to buy the book. You and Peter said to just give something to someone on the street who needed it. A picture I saw of men who were so stupid that they tried to destroy The Buddha by destroying a stone image of him. Yours, MAJ Tom and his Band of Deserters

- Reading his
'Deliberate Prose'
book of Essays right now... :
...Too too easy to forget what even this brilliant errudite huge-hearted transformational figure was
really
about
- & get stuck w/ some cartoon image...
- but this book really helps affirm for me that Ginsberg is probably one of my small handfull of favorite Philosophers of Life - !

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE TAG ALONG AND WELCOME TO LIFE IN WORDS. A PLACE FOR THE LOVE OF POETRY BECAUSE POETRY IS LIFE AND THE BEAUTY ALL AROUND US IS POETRY. I ALWAYS RESPOND AND LOVE TO TALK ....
Hope is the thing...
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Over And Over
I've Followed An Autumn Leaf
Free And Beautiful
Flying In The Wind

Above A Sea Of Dreams
I've Got Nothing Else To Do
I Have Followed Leaf Around,
Bringing Me Anywhere
In Spite Of The Cold Getting Colder
Today, Spring Is Here

Now When I Open My Eyes
I Can See Things...

A Clear Midnight
THIS is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless,
Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done,
Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou
lovest best.
Night, sleep, and the stars.

My friend the Angel climb'd up from his station into the mill; I remain'd alone, & then this appearance was no more, but I found myself sitting on a pleasant bank beside a river by moon light
hearing a harper who sung to the harp. & his theme was, The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, & breeds reptiles of the mind.

We'll be watching by the light of the moon.
We'll be playing by all of the rules while becoming the wolf after midnight.
By day we'll bulk up and hang by the pool with long wet hair that looks so cool.
We'll be howling by the light of the moon
While biting your neck after midnight.

Ginsberg tweaked my brain in thefollowing way:
"Totally Stoned"
naked,
high,
and happy
i can't help but
fondle myself when
gazing upon the moon
with her plump white succulence
beaming down upon me and
tickling me with kisses until I pee
I nod back
into the couch
of my sedated cerebrum
looking through smiling squinty
eyes at the smoke swirling around
the light like a drunk ghost entertaining
my lack of reason with the old
"Lampshade on the Head"
routine like Uncle Barney
always used to do at
family reunions
spam,
chocolate,
and ritz crackers,
I catch myself playing
with my food and I feel like a fool
chocolate and meat by-products
taste like a funny fetish that there
should be a law against.
I'm either pregnant
or i'm totally stoned

I got scared. I ran. I rushed into a door hall where a woman was knifing a man under the stairway. I looked at her, without any kind of reaction, but with such an intensity and such a sexual excitation that I started to puke. When the knife moved slowly upwards, I awoke inside my own life. I didn’t regarded the act she was committing as an assassination, I just had the feeling of a perfect and pure move. I seldom met cold-blood murderers before that day, but I can’t imagine spending time now without being at the side of all these silent and often very shy persons, sitting with them at the same table, joining my hands, praying, my spirit spread wide open like legs after a rape, and getting blessed by thousand of spits.

Will never forget meeting you and Peter at Columbia in 1982. Your wore a slightly rumpled business suit. You were covered in sweat after the reading. You howled, I howled, the entire audience howled. It was a regular wolf fest. I was a poor student without the money to buy "Howl and Other Poems." Peter gave me a copy, and said "give a buck to some homeless person you see."
Yours, Major Tom and his Band of Deserters
