Yeah, Billy was on fine form. And it was great to see Bruce and Johnny up on stage with him again.
Even I didn't know that we'd end up with a spontaneous Headcoats reunion!

Very rarely do I comment on songs in the key of Billy Childish, but today is an exception. Since my last visit to the dirty water club to see the MBE's I have had this feeling that Billy heart is not in it anymore, The experiences I have had with The Milkshakes, Mighty Caesars, Headcoats and The Buff Medways have all made an impression on me. His latest incarnation of the MBE's have only been a touch on his past achievements, and hearing a new song on their myspace site made me wonder whats happening with him. Its called 'Christmas 1979'. I leave it to you to tell me your opinion but am wondering what the hell is going on in Billy's mind to bring out such mess.

Maybe Billy, Julie or Wolf can enlighten me.!!!

I quite agree with Billy about Jackson Pollack. Very mannered paintings - all about design and if you look at his workings the subject is just dancing ladies like all the rest of Art HIStory except Van Gogh or Manet when he escaped from commissions- and the early works of GWWatts are really stuckist - like paintings of drowned prostitutes in the Thames River!
thanks for the mail!

CHILDISH FOREVER! I have to say here, that The Original Catham Jack and At The Bridge (as well as Captain Calypso's Hoodoo Party) are really underrated Childish albums. 107 Tapes too. HEADCOATS ON!

I was given the chance this month to write the cover story for SLUG Magazine. I interviewed Billy Childish over the phone--talking about his newest band, the squabble he and Jack White had last year, and gardening. Click the photo below to read the article. For an almost complete transcription of our phone conversation, check out my latest blog.

In Seattle in 1997 Billy signed my copy of his book "in 5 minits you'll know me". This Book and all Billy's works changed my life. For years I had been writing poems and such and was ready to give up on myself because my spelling was so poor. After reading Billy's writings I realized how little that mattered, that the feelings were invoked just the same. If Billy could publish his book bad spelling and all then why should I give a piss?
I love your work Billy it has and continues to affect my life.
Thank You

I saw a DVD documentary about Billy last night and the more I get to know him the more stunnish (sp?) I am to see how underrated he is, maybe not as a musician (which in my not so humble ipinion he is) but also as a painter.
The docu showed him surrounded by his wood painting that were superb and also himslef playing with his magnificent outfits... How many people in England owe him a great deal... He is himslef I see why though some might not like him.
It's hard to get along with a "genious" but as a fan it's very easy to adore him and to admire him.
One day... one day...one day I will be able to afford one of his oils oh yes I will! :-)

I have a special fondness for the Childish bands' LP's.. as I've always found them in the most peculiar ways, and strangest times in my life. Of all the excellent work, it's Thee Headcoats's 7"'s I have the most sentimental attachment to.

Thank you for adding me to the B.C.S. I had the privilege and the honour to come across the Man himself last year (or was it two years ago?) in London at a poetry reading. He also performed a short acoustic blues set. Great!

Billy Childish is a beautiful human being.
His poetry has offered me solace many a time and his understanding (well, maybe that's the wrong word, but it'll have to do) of human suffering is something that I find as astounding today as I did the first time I read his poems.
Godspeed Billly.
You make me live.

What a huge inspiration this man has been. Thank you! I'll never forget the mostly instrumental Thee Headcoats set in Boston (1997?), followed by the balls to the wall vocals gig in Providence! Seemed like the voice came back, no problem. All hail Billy C!

Your show at The Spitz was marvelous.

One of the highlights for me had to be when one enthusiastic member of the audience told everyone to "SHUT UP!!!!" and the entire crowd made that "oooooh-OOOOOH-oooooh" handbag grasping, "get her " type sound in unison. That kind of thing makes you proud to be British.
However the theft of your yellow folder strips me of that pride and makes me wish I lived somewhere like the ancient Hittite capital of Hatusa where they'd cut of your hands for that sort of thing.
I hope that rotter see's the error of their ways and returns it to you forthwith.

Billy.

Flattered to be invited to your list, finally finished reading 'Hunger at the Moon'; favorites are 'To Know Nothing' and 'Letter to an Older Brother'.

Also just picked up 'Heaven's Journey' which along with Guitar Wolf's 'Loverock' are my two best album purchases this year. You also convinced me to go out and purchase my first ever issue of GQ.

Cheers.

Hey, Mr. Childish. Jesse woulda loved My Fault, as much I did. And all of us working on the Jesse tribute page are big fans of your music.

Thanks for being a friend of the Jesse Bernstein tribute page!

"The test of the integrity of a poem, or any work of art, may be, simply: does it lead, in the end, to freedom, or does it merely expand the arena of confinement? A voice from the outside, truly, is what we need to hear. Even a single word. Even something that is not a word, but suggests such a word."
