Usually not pro leaving RIP comments on myspaces but it's a shame that John Martyn's comments are filled up with spam and people plugging their own music.

The guy was a genius and should be and is missed by a lot of real people not trying to get big posting on his wall.

I just found out today that John Martyn died in January… Never met him – but we had emailed a few times – I referenced the fact that we were only a year apart in age, and though I was never an icon of the folk world, I had played and been on the periphery of it, playing small clubs and a few festivals. Of course, growing up and living in Southern California, being a full time surfer, part time human being, didn’t lend itself to the British folk scene – but none the less I found it, or perhaps the other way about, and ravenously ate up all the Fairport, Pentangle, Steeleye Span, Ralph McTell, and of course - John, etc… I could find (obviously pre- internet, what a blessing for finding artists the world over, eh)! Now as I reflect on my own up coming 60th birthday gig (seems to be a thing I think with us old geezers), it simply seemed fitting to reflect on all the artists that formed the sound track of my life. Sitting way too much in front of You Tube - pulling up memories and even finding some artists I never knew about before, some of which would have been favorites, had I found them way back then. Oh well, heck with it – to all of you – and epically you John (you wonderful old dog you!), thanks so much for being there and to most of you, for still being here.

Sort of a PS – if any of you happen to me in the Sonoma County, California area – and have some time around 6 July, and would like to catch my gig – drop me line and I’ll send you details as to the venue and time. Sorry, not an acoustic performance, but should be fun…
