Catholic Charities of Colorado Springs
commends the following quote from CCUSA: "Catholic social teaching clearly defines poverty as a moral issue. Poverty is a fundamental violation of human dignity and also a form of violence against the God who is present in every human person. The existence of extreme poverty amidst plenty is a serious violation of moral values and a threat to the good of society."

Thank you for your support:
Little Girl bitten by dog doing Better
Thank you to everyone who responded to the call for help for Sativa Hoag's 3-year old daughter who was bitten by a dog. Sativa had just moved her family to Colorado Springs for better work opportunities, and was living with friends. She had turned her back for just a minute, and that's when the little girl was bitten. Once the dog attacked the little girl, they needed to move to another place.
Catholic Charities was able to put the little girl and her family up in a motel, but did not have the funds to support the family until the mother received her first paycheck in a month. Thanks to a story by
News Channel 13
, a generous donor called, and is putting the family up in a spare bedroom in her home.
Other donors have called to donate money to help with the medical bills, offer gas cards and anything the family needs. If you would like to help this family, please call 719-866-6440 to make a donation.

"no one should have to die homeless, all alone, in a public park.
"
Family & Friends of Nathan Keliher attended a Memorial Service held at the Marian House Soup Kitchen on August 28.
On August 21, Nathan Keliher, a 26 year old man, was found dead in a homeless camp in Colorado Springs. Nathan was a frequent guest of the Marian House Soup Kitchen for the past year, and was a resident of a local homeless camp.
Jason Christensen, President & CEO of Catholic Charities said, "No one should have to die homeless, all alone, in a public park. Whatever the circumstances, this was someone's son, brother, grandson and friend."
On August 28, a Memorial Service was held at the Marian House to celebrate Nathan's life. Deacon Pat Bidon presided over the service, attended by Nathan's camp mates and guests of the soup kitchen.
Nathan was returned to his family in Washington and was buried on September 1st.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES IS NOT JUST FOR CATHOLICS!
Recently our Director of Communications, Rochelle Schlortt, wrote an article for
the IMAGE
, a Tri-Lakes Area Magazine, about the mis-perception that Catholic Charities only serves Catholics.
Here is the full article.
Catholic Charities of Colorado Springs serves anyone in need, without regard to race, creed, or religious affiliation. It is an extremely ecumenical operation where staff, volunteers, and clients come from all walks of life. The organization has been part of the Colorado Springs community for over 41 years, and in that time, has adjusted programs and services to meet the needs of the people in our community who need the most help. Many times, we hear, “Oh, I’m not Catholic,” implying they cannot receive our services, or they don’t want to volunteer with an organization that serves only Catholics. These comments could not be further from the truth. Catholic Charities helps ANYONE in need. All you need to do is come to our door for a meal, and you are welcomed, no questions asked. In most of the other services, basic information is required, but no one is discriminated against for any reason.

When I am Weak:
My dear friends...
Our greatest weakness is not that which causes us to fail, but the pride that keeps us from admitting it. Like it or not—we are weak. We would like to think that we are strong and can independently handle the things of our lives. Even work we do in service to the Lord often raises pride in us as we try to glorify God, but without help from any others—this so that people will see what we alone have done in His name. But let us see ourselves as we are, and personal regard is of little consequence. The work of God becomes more important than self-esteem, and we learn to unashamedly lean on Him and others in our weakness. As we humbly accept our imperfections, pride loses its power to inhibit us from walking strongly in Christ. And then we discover first hand what Paul expressed, “For when I am weak, then I am strong.” "
That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:10, NIV.

"When you convince God that you want Him above all else, you will be attuned to His will. When you continue to seek Him no matter what obstacles arise to take you away from Him, you are using your human will in its most constructive form. You will thus operate the law of success that was known to the ancient sages and that is understood by all men who have achieved true success. The divine power is yours if you make a determined effort to use it to attain health, happiness, and peace. As you encompass these goals you will travel on the path of Self-realization to your true home in God."
excerpted from
"The Law of Success: Using the Power of Spirit to Create Health, Prosperity, and Happiness" by Paramahansa Yogananda
Affirmation:
"Heavenly Father, I will reason, I will will, I will act; but guide Thou my reason, will, and activity to the right thing that I should do."

The apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
"Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while."
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.
When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.
May you get away by yourself to a deserted place to rest a while..

Pope Urges Forming New World Economic Order to Work for the ‘Common Good’ VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday called for a radical rethinking of the global economy, criticizing a growing divide between rich and poor and urging the establishment of a “true world political authority” to oversee the economy and work for the “common good.” He criticized the current economic system, “where the pernicious effects of sin are evident,” and urged financiers in particular to “rediscover the genuinely ethical foundation of their activity.” He also called for “greater social responsibility” on the part of business. “Once profit becomes the exclusive goal, if it is produced by improper means and without the common good as its ultimate end, it risks destroying wealth and creating poverty,” Benedict wrote in his new encyclical, which the Vatican released on Tuesday. >
