Maybe we will! Snag Steve DiStanislao on drums, maybe. He played on David Gilmour's On An Island tour... check out the Remember That Night DVD. It could be the aborted late 90's or so Anthrax idea... Gabriel AND Collins on vocals? Gabriel doing "Throwing It All Away" while Collins belts out "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway"

Just kidding...

I got "The White Album "and Past Masters... One word: WOW! I actually played a few songs back to back, and ten years ago, I probably might not have noticed or cared a hell of a lot, but everyone's right: those 1987-1988 remasters do suck! It's like the Sistine Chapel and the Restoration. I am hoping to pick up the rest of the albums over time, but what I'm truly gunning for, and I already started setting aside money for this, is the Beatles In Mono box. Seeing as those albums in mono (especially Sgt. Pepper and "The White Album") are truly "alt. mix" versions rather than stereo fold downs, I'm extremely curious now. Oh, if I hadn't mentioned it, I found Pump on vinyl! I also picked up a copy of Blondie's Eat To The Beat, which surprised the hell out of me. That Cheap Trick 45 is on the Sub Pop label! I wonder if the '97 album ever had a vinyl release. I just read that that CD has a pre-gap track!!! Yeah, album clips and some studio chatter! I just put in the CD and hit the "<<" button. First time I've ever heard this! Did you know about it? Okay, I'm done babbling...

Self-titled, and More Of The Monkees... I'll let you know my reaction when I hear them... I've been pursuing a few different avenues of sound lately...

New Spinal Tap??? Crazy! I'm curious about the new Black Crowes. I got Three Snakes and Lost Crowes. Tasty stuff... I've got another branching out in my listening, which makes who knows how many major changes in the past year... What was the last one I mentioned to you? I know there's been a lot that's surprised you (Genesis, Cinderella, Dokken... that was a nice shock)

Fun times. I've seriously felt my love for music rekindled, for lack of a better word... My friend Lynn that gave me the first batch of recordsgave me the rest that she had, including 3 Beatles (The Early Beatles, Help! (US), and Yellow Submarine), and 2 Monkees, not to mention 3 records by a band called The Shirts! The Pretenders' Get Close was in there still sealed! This has been a great year for my ears! There's more, but I just need to know about the last musical revolution I told you about.
No Promises: JoeJoe Krom

Jun 17, 2009 2:09 AM

Bernie Worrell, he played on a lot of Get Close, including My Baby, Light Of The Moon, Dance!, I Remember You, How Much Did You Get For Your Soul?, and Chill Factor. I don't know if he's played on any others though... It's a damn good album!

So, any musical discoveries lately?

Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains... 2004 Prawn Song Records release involving Claypool, Buckethead, one-time Primus drummer Brain... and Bernie Worrell! He played with The Pretenders!!! I'm thinking of their Get Close album from 1986. Pretty cool, huh?

Good news! New Cheap Trick album really soon!
Bad news: they're sidestepping record labels for this one, making it slightly less accessible than usual channels (as far as I know)

Great news: It's also being released as an LP!!!
Not so comforting news: The record will be available on Amazon.com only (for now, at least). I've been avoiding record hunting online for some time now! I have a feeling I might have to consider that avenue sooner or later...

That's great news! I don't know about the Poison part though... So, no word on album info, such as any possible concepts, ideas (The Doctor Part II maybe?)
Just kidding... I'll keep an ear out for news too. Did you by chance hear something about some Def Leppard designer clothing being worked on? I think it might've been shirts for Rick Allen, named The Real One-Armed Bandit...

Two more before I forget: Genesis (self-titled) and Isaac Hayes' Shaft soundtrack.
I didn't realize that was a 2-record set! And the one I picked up is a quadrophonic mix!!!
No Promises: JoeJoe Krom

Mar 25, 2009 6:44 AM

That would've been the next one if I had enough money. I'll give you a hint: The four of them were in straitjackets for the photo, but turtlenecks were airbrushed over. Another hint: two songs from this album were played unplugged...

Oh, I don't know if this'll surprise you or not, but I've been listening to a bit of the Stones between '78 and '83, the one album I'm really, really enjoying being Undercover...

Mar 22, 2009 7:05 AM

Here's another one... Argent: "Holy Your Head Up" (unfortunately the heavily-edited-butchered single version) with "God Gave Rock And Roll To You" as a b-side... If it weren't for that gutted a-side, I'd say perfect!
No Promises: JoeJoe Krom

Mar 13, 2009 6:04 PM

Maybe the eighties discovery will wait for a while. After some Fastway, I decided to listen to a stack of Rick Derringer. Now I've got Toys In The Attic playing. I'm thinking Deep Purple's Made In Japan after this. Maybe...

Mar 12, 2009 3:58 AM

Slowly getting there! I've got a ways to go still... I was pretty exhausted last night, so I haven't even gotten to any of what I mentioned beyond Crüe. Besides, it took a while to do Hysteria (and probably a longer while to do it again). I still wanna listen to some Dokken first, and... I've gotta keep my mouth shut on the subject for the moment...
No Promises: JoeJoe Krom

Mar 11, 2009 7:52 AM

Two words: Metal Health!

Oh, I listened to Hysteria, and somehow, for some strange reason, I wasn't repelled! Ok, "Pour Some Sugar On Me" is cringe-worthy, as always, but for a couple moments, I forgot about Rick Allen's empty shirtsleeve hanging on its side.
Oh god that's horrible!
Oh god I feel an 80s binge coming on.
I'm finding Autograph, Fastway, Scorpions, Tesla!!! Oh my god, this is gonna get out of hand, if it hasn't already!!!!

I'd dig that... By the way, I saw a copy of Motley Crüe's Too Fast For Love with a zipper on it Sticky Fingers-style somewhere!!!

Revenge on vinyl would be really cool... What I really wanna find is some more Deep Purple. I found this import of Shades of... at Charley's, and I've got In Rock, Made In Japan, Burn, and Stormbringer. I think Burn was a little iffy though. I really want to find Fireball because that's still one of my favorite pre-Gillan/Glover split albums. Hearing Made In Japan totally blew my friend away last week, which is always cool. Unfortunately, in the Zeppelin department, I'm lacking in 3 albums, 4 if you wanna include Song Remains The Same. I need III, Physical Graffiti (the copy Lynn gave me has just one record. Damn!), and Presence.
I better actually make a list here!
No Promises: JoeJoe Krom

Feb 24, 2009 5:18 AM

I forgot! I've got a copy of Double Platinum, which I am inspecting due to a somewhat questionable condition.
So far so good ha ha!
As for the artwork, that's a huge part of the experience! For all its advancements and benefits, there's so much lost in this so-called digital revolution! .jpg files don't match the experience of holding this cover and being able to feel embossed covers (such as double platinum), or the wheel in the Zeppelin III cover, or the windows of Physical Graffiti... Preaching to the choir, sorry! I still can't believe I've got Muscle Of Love in the original cardboard!!!

The only Kiss albums I've got are Alive! and Love Gun...This might shock you (then again, after the past four years, it might not), but the next two Kiss records I want are Dynasty and Lick It Up. Creatures would be badass, but last time I went record hunting, I spotted Lick It Up and Dynasty but didn't have quite enough. Pity. Next time, I suppose...

I'm gonna make this a little more interesting:
Yes, I do have a Cinderella record...
Yes, I played it...
and liked it!

Oh, the changes come rolling in like a rock avalanche, don't they?
Some things never change though. Even though my CD players have been largely untouched for a week now, I did find two Pink Floyd import CDs, one with a DVD!!! But like I said, my record player has been getting almost exclusive use...

The Analog Revolution Lives!

You weren't thinking of one named after a fairy tale, were you? Well, you're nobody's fool haha! Sorry, couldn't resist that one. As for the Phil Collins thing, I kind of go back with that album, probably to a few years after it came out. I'd love to find that box set, not to mention the one right after. Speaking of Genesis kick though, I found Abacab & Duke in my record collection... not to mention an album titled Metal Health...
But I'm enjoying some Alice Cooper right now, Muscle Of Love.
This record player has helped expand my music listening a lot lately!

When the Dokken hunt begins, it'll be on vinyl. Entirely on vinyl at first.
I did some record hunting Monday & my friend found Tooth And Nail at Krazy Kat! Then she found Van Halen's Fair Warning next door for $2!!! And I got Phil Collins' No Jacket Required for $2!

Next month... Record convention! Yeah, as the world goes further digital, I go on a record hunt! By the way, I'm playing Night Songs right now!
