MERCI SAM

The world serves us what it considers important, urgent, vital
It prefers speed
Effectiveness
Results
Ostentation
Noise
The illusion of certainty
I wish for you to celebrate what serves no purpose
I wish you beauty
I wish for you to string pearls
I wish for you to dream with your feet dangling in a pretty brook
I wish for you to listen to birdsong
I wish for you to lie down in a broad, poppy-strewn meadow
I wish for you to have a small bike in your head
I wish for you to experience love at first sight
I wish for you " to carry coals to Newcastle"
I wish for you to seek beauty
Within yourself
For yourself
I wish for you only what is free

David Franks: Walkabout…

Nov 3, 2009 2:42 AM

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

“The Top Ten Reasons to Celebrate October 20th and the release of Sam’s new album.”

#10 Why should that other guy with the “Top Ten Lists” be getting all the free press… As of October 20th, Sam’s been sleeping with his manager and staff for Twenty Five Years!!!

#9 It’s safer to have” Circles Around Me” than a Burning “Ring Of Fire”!!!

#8 On October 20th, you’ll only have 67 shopping days until Christmas! With the New Pre-Sale shop at sambush.com you’ve got one stop shopping. No Crowds, No Malls, and No Traffic. Buy like we vote here in Muletown, Early & Often!!!

#7 For those people who are mourning the baseball season, and the fact that their team(s) didn't make it far into the playoffs, (Me and Sam and Lynn, among others), we'll get to hear Sam's new CD all winter and beyond!!! (Submitted by Mary/samfan1)

6# A chance to buy an autographed copy of the new CD with a picture of Sam Bush in a suit! That’s right SAM BUSH IN A SUIT!!! And may we say, “He looks mahvelous! Absolutely mahvelous!!! Come on now ladies, “Every girl’s crazy bout a sharp dressed man”!!!

5# We’ll get to hear “The Ballad of Stringbean and Estelle”. As tragic and sad as this song and story is, who amongst us that remembers Stringbean from the ole Opry and HeeHaw shows, that when his name is mentioned and in our mind we picture him in those overalls, that those memories brings a smile to our face. We should all be so blessed as to leave that as our legacy!!! Thanks for the memories.

4# We get to hear studio versions of songs we've been hearing live all summer long and then some...just like the Grateful Dead used to do it! (Submitted by rickp)

#3 Sam Bush, Musical-Mando Genius, releases Circles Around Me the same week Bill Gates, Computer Genius puts out Windows7!!! Coincidence? Divine Guidance? Great minds think alike? Enquiring minds want to know . . .

#2 We'll get to hear that beautiful title song, "Circles Around Me", which makes us

Who all heard Sam last night on the Grand ole Opry? For the first show they played “Circles Around Me”, the title track from the new album and “Out On The Ocean”. For the second show they played “Gold Heart Locket” and “Whisper My Name” which he dedicated to his bride of nearly 25 years. For both shows Sam, introduced that incredible band. Not only did Sam, Scott, Stephen, Chris, and Byron play “Circles Around Me”, THEY PLAY CIRCLES AROUND MOST !!!

I had the lifetime pleasure of recording with Sam in Nashville for Bucket of Bees, an album with strong newgrass leanings, thanks to Sam, Jerry Douglas, David Grier and Tony Trischka, who helped produce. Thanks to Bil VornDick who engineered that session. It is now distributed through Universal - online digital downloads, with my entire catalogue. So thank you Sam, for making it all happen and for playing in the moment on Elephant Hop and Bucket of Bees. (((Awesome))) I am eternally grateful -Tom

Let the countdown begin!!!

With Ten Days to go, what better way to do it than with a Top Ten List? So let us start:

“The Top Ten Reasons to Celebrate October 20th and the release of Sam’s new album.”

#10 Why should that other guy with the “Top Ten Lists” be getting all the free press… As of October 20th, Sam’s been sleeping with his manager and staff for Twenty Five Years!!!

Happy Upcoming 25th Anniversary to the hardest workin’ couple in NewGrass.

(OK Music Lovers don’t be shy. For the next Ten days, Chime in with more new reasons and if we end up with more than ten, all the better. We’re the only ones keeping score.)
