The Claw of TRUTHettrick scott	Sep 25, 2007 1:32 PM here's my review what will be in the Sunday Sun next week. come and play in newcastle, it'll be a reet laugh, man. bests Claw x MICHAEL DRACULA - IN THE RED (ZE) Not a person but a group, the mainstay of Glasgow's Michael Dracula is Emily MacLaren, and she and her band make beguiling, evocative music that makes the world suddenly seem a slightly more sinister place when you listen to it. Another writer has described this as being "Twin Peaks music" and I can see exactly what he means...like the TV show, it's by turns unsettling, eerie and completely bewitching. Although In The Red is essentially a home recording, the home that they used to record it at is a 500 year-old, bat-infested villa in the South of France, and its atmosphere has definitely seeped into the songs. Bar-room pianos, thudding drums and skittering guitars feature heavily. In The Red sounds quietly unhinged at times, but as Emily says on Rational Hatred, "Most people in control have no rock 'n' roll, they have no soul", to which I can only add, "Hell, yeah."
