It is hopefully a stepping stone to a career. Of course, it is funny you mention your "dreaded 1-10 shift" because I will be working 2-3 weekdays from 1:30-10:30 and a 16 hour shift on one day of the weekend 6:30am-10:30pm. So, cry me a river! =P I did an observation on Tuesday where I was basically in the "courtyard" with the other counselors and the kids. The courtyard is a common living area and all of their bedrooms are on the outside of that square. I am pretty sure they are placing me with the older age group 16-17 which is probably the best place for me to be. Those kids are more mature, capable of listening, and most would probably be in a juvenile detention center had the judge not given them this placement. So, some of them see this as their last chance to get their act together before that magic number of 18 occurs and the consequences of their actions turn far more dreadful. I think the other counselors were assessing my placement on the "hardness" scale, to determine whether or not I would be able to make it. One, in particular, was very obvious about how he was seeing how I would react to his "stories." Once the observation was over, the interviewer came back and asked me what I thought. My reaction was just like your reaction to what you read. "This is an interesting job," I said. I never expect a dull day. The time will pass quickly, and I'm sure I'll end up having plenty of stories, good and bad. The thing is, I don't necessarily feel anymore in danger going to work there than I would in a regular school. At least in this environment, I know to expect the worst from each of them, and be thankful and encouraging for the good behavior. In a regular school, it is quite the opposite. I look forward to seeing what kind of training they will provide in one week. I also look forward to reading all of the kids' files. The counselor who was trying to scare me was pointing out each kid and talking about their psychological makeup. Many h

Nice! What do you think it was? Have a good catch? I am getting awfully bored of sitting around everyday. We've both applied for positions at UofMemphis. The job postings close next week. So, we are hoping for interview calls soon. Doesn't look like the Youth Villages thing is coming through. I am thinking about waiting tables...anything to shift the monotony.

Hey! I don't know if you are using one of Michelle's layouts, but your layout isn't loading for me. You probably need to go delete your old code. Check the about me section in edit profile. You have a pimpmymyspace link in there. Delete that. =P Still no word from the interview folks. I begin harassing them in the morning!

We had a blast. I am stressing bigtime about finding a job. I had an interview, but I don't know if I am much of a fit. I am over-qualified, if you ask me, but I'll take anything right now. Hopefully, you'll be able to watch this video I am trying to convert so I can put it on youtube. We had a very close encounter with a black bear. Later...

Hi there Adventurer. I’ve been busy moving photos over here from another site that will soon cease to exist. Still have a lot to do; I’m about half way there. Glad you are enjoying them. Some I will be posting go back to the early 1960's. It brings back a lot of memories.

George Bush has once again screwed my family over. My brother's wife called me this morning and told me that my brother's unit has gotten extended for 30 days in Afghanistan. As a result, he is now going to miss his daughter being born.

Greetings from Denver. It has been such a blessedle beautiful month here. So far there has only been one day in march that the sun didn't shine. This is good after 7 blizzrds in a row.
I have had some Divine Intervention to get back on my path...read my blog for the details.

you should have seen the look on genes face when me and ray walked out the prep room at choice when he was checking it out. the whole time he was there though he wouldn't even look at us. good thing is i dont have to work for that guy anymore. like the new job though. its so much easier and they have a much bigger variety. managers aren't worried about k chemical or signing off a list if you do your job everything is ok. the way work is supposed to be i guess.

Oh, and by the way, please just ignore anything my son might say on my site. He is actually a really funny guy, but sometimes it's hard to tell when things are just typed and you can't hear or see him when he says it. :)
