On March 28, 2009 at 8:30 p.m., tens of millions of people in hundreds of cities around the world will come together once again to make a bold statement about their concern for climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. Earth Hour symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in the fight against climate change. Here in the U.S., it sends a message that Americans care about this issue and stand with the rest of the world in seeking to find solutions to the escalating climate crisis.
Earth Hour launched in 2007 in Sydney, Australia with 2.2 million homes and businesses turning their lights off for one hour. A year later the movement went global. 50 million people across 35 countries, in over 400 cities on all seven continents participated.
In the U.S. we’re turning off the lights on the famed Las Vegas strips and the skylines of other great cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville and San Francisco.
Please visit
www.EarthHourUS.org
for a complete list of participating cities around the world and for more information.

Hi *IFAW*! This is my Mom’s (Debi) and my pet dog, Mookey. He has something to ask you: Will you vote for him in the Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest - and help save other pets' lives at the same time? See my pet's picture and message below. Helping animals is really important to me, and your donation will not only help my pet in the contest, but will save pets' lives by reducing pet overpopulation. Thanks!
*HELP STOP THE HORRIFIC…
Feb 18, 2009 2:14 PM
Hello, I'm Mookey Cortez. The person who takes care of me, Debi, has entered me in The Humane Society of the United States' and Humane Society International's Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest.
Now I need your vote to help me win some cool prizes -- and to help me raise critical funds for spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation.
To celebrate the 15th annual Spay Day on February 24, 2009, The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International are telling everyone how spaying and neutering improves pets' lives. In addition to making pets better, more affectionate companions, spaying and neutering helps animals live longer and healthier.
To enter the photo contest, my caregiver submitted a picture and wrote a few nice words about me. The rest is up to you: This is one contest in which you can "buy" votes -- and that's exactly what I'm asking you to do. In this contest, every US $1 you donate in my name both supports spay/neuter and awards me one vote in the contest! If I finish in the top 500, I'll win some sweet prizes.
Simply copy and paste this website into your browser if you would like to vote...
https://photocontest.humanesociety.org/contest.html?page=viewInd&id=3251&contestId=1
Or alternately, copy and paste this website...
http://photocontest.humanesociety.org/
...click on ‘Search Pets’ and type in ‘Mookey Cortez’
I'd appreciate your vote and donation today, but if you'd like to enter your own pet in the contest, then please do—I can handle some friendly competition!
Enter your pet in the contest and donate to vote today. You may enter the contest until 5 p.m., Eastern Time, on February 27, 2009; voting ends at midnight, Eastern Time, on March 6, 2009.
Sincerely,
Mookey and his owners Debi & Hannah :-) xox

Thank You for your support ~ The SSS team is made up of many unique members who support Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Our goals are to educate others via special research projects, petitions, bulletins and teamwork with other groups of like minded ocean and marine life activists. We look forward to working with you and offering an exchange of ideas and friendship. We feature many strong sites on our myspace page top 40 ~ as we love to share our concepts, and support yours also. Together we can and will create change! Our Mission Statement ~ The wanton slaughter of ocean wildlife can be stopped with your help. Sea Shepherd has the experience, the skills, the courage, and the determination to bring an end to illegal whaling along with other illegal oceanic activities. With your support, we can keep their ships at sea to defend the defenseless dolphins, fish, seals, whales, and all ocean wildlife!
Educating the public about whales and their ocean environment is part of our core mission of SSS. We believe that the first step towards conservation is the education of people both young and old, about whales and the environment they live in and about the problems they face because of - humans. It is only through education that we can gain support for conservation initiatives. It is only through education that we can gain support for conservation initiatives. It is solid research that education evolves and therefore allows us to work behind the scenes to see to it that better legislation is brought to the frontlines and passed, not only to protect the whales but one of our most important resources - our oceans, and marine life.

i cannot agree enough with the smart woman under my comment! Yesterday i had the first real meetignwith my "s.o.s club", which stands for save teh seals, and we're planning on doing whatever it takes to sto this cruelty! fundraisers to send money to ifaw, spread awareness, and mayeb even boycotting at places where seal products are purchased.
But please, if there's anythign else we can do, let us know. all we want to do it help make a change.

Hello, Thanks for the friendship- please let me know if there is anything i can do to help... this sickerning cull..
About this time every year i feel helpless & really sick to know whats going on..
I cant bring myself to watch anymore vid's... of the act of cruelty!!
BUT BY NO MEANS WILL I IGNOR THIS!!!
I just feel theres no need to kill them & practically skin the beautifull seals ALIVE the way it happens!! the slaughtermen responsable should be shamed or maybe we should chop there arms & legs off... see them try fight back or run away!! SHAME ON THEM!!
If this MUST be done then why cant they Shoot them... at least they dont suffer so much!!
I know everyone has to make a living in their own local enviroment!! but where i'm from most young people... steel cars or sell drugs... BUT DO I... No!!
Those people responsable for killing them such really get more of an education!! find another job!! or maybe move home all together... ya know that enviroment just does not substain humans!! like the moon!!! its that simple to me!!
Sorry but i'm really angry... yet again!!
ALL MY LOVE

Perhaps we should all load up and take a trip - to be there when the killers arrive ... to fight for the helpless. A simple statement with hearts in the right place - but... easier said than done! This has hurt me since 5th grade (many moons ago lol) when as a child my entire elemetary school sent letters to the Prime Minister to STOP this slaughter. I sit here - 30 years later and NOTHING has changed. This breaks my heart and fuels my determination!!!

What hope do we offer the nuclear race?
And what do we do with the nuclear waste?
We can’t bury it down, it can’t swim in the sea,
So what do we do with this grim legacy?
Well I’ll tell you the truth, and I’ll make it quite plain,
We can’t shoot it in space, or let it wash down the drain.
So we leave it behind for the kids yet to come,
That bittersweet taste of the nuclear bomb.
Well the kids of tomorrow have no words to say
For the world we leave and the price they will pay.
Caretakers are we and for what do we stand?
For the love of the life on this sacred land.
What hope for the child in this world of ill care
Lies deep with the meek on a wing and a prayer,
That these Gods will see reason for the land, sea, and air,
And the hope in the future for the life that lives there.
Caretakers are we, and for what do we stand?
For the love of the life on this sacred land.
What reason for money when you can’t breathe the air?
And the oceans and lakes they lay barren and bare,
And the streams and the rivers run sewerage and poison
With no drink to spair,
Caretakers are we, and for what do we stand?
For the love of the life on this sacred land.
The ice caps are melting thers holes in the sky, we poison the earth for the sake of a lie, its time for the one and the all standing by to take hold of the reigns and put an end to this crime for we are the meek and now is our time,,,,caretakers are we and for what do we stand,, for the love of all life on this sacred land www. goodisplanetearth. org
