Yes, my Mom's used cocoa too and I don't remember a syrup (but that was 50 years ago! Don't remember so well!

Yep, the same way my Mom made it. I remember when the "Fantasy Fudge" (marshmallow recipe) started making the rounds in schools and offices...late 60's or earlier 70's if I remember correctly. Until then, all fudge was made the way your Mom and mine made it. Go here and I'm pretty sure this is close to her recipe.

Yes! That's right! No humidity or rainy days. There is hard ball (crack) stage (honestly!!) and soft ball stage, etc. You have to keep dropping it into ice water til the right hardness forms. That's why people started making it the easy way with marshmallow cream, but it isn't nearly as good.

You know, Chris and I went to that Ikea last Winter. My friend Elizabeth lives in Florence, Kentucky. We went up that way to see her, and of course to see the gay mecca. LOL. My favorite part about Ikea is the cafeteria. I miss Swedish food!
