To my dear friend The Full Spectrum, may you feel the Love in your heart and in all that surrounds you today and always...

There are four questions of value in life... What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth
iving for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love.

Update about The Full Spectrum in Canada

In the one Chapters-Indigo bookstore in Ontario that held copies of the book, it was filed in the Non-Fiction, 9-12 year-old section of Children's Books.

It was filed between the books, "Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul" and "All Made Up: A Girl's Guide to Seeing through Celebrity Hype and Celebrating Real Beauty".

Its been 3 weeks since I read "the pretty book, with the condoms on the front" since I didnt know the name of it while passing by the window display of my local book store. Lucky me had a wonderful man working who knew exactly what book I was talking about. I LOVE the full spectrum. All of the writes are so amazing and talented. I hope one day I can impact someones life, as you guys have impacted mine.

I just did a check on Chapters-Indigo (the big library chain for Canada), and I'm surprised to find that 6 copies of the paperback version in only one store (which is incidentally located close to my house and in one of my favourite malls). I will go check it out, and report back on it.

However, no other bookstore contains it :(

So Allegedly we were on C-SPAN? Travis Stanton sent me the following and asked me to share it...

"I was watching Hooktv on C-SPAN2 and Katha Pollitt was on doing a reading from 'Virginity or Death at Barnes & Noble in NYC. Behind her and on either side of the podium were copies of THE FULL SPECTRUM!!! My friend Will texted me and was like, 'DUDE, YOUR BOOK IS ON C-SPAN!!!'"

Those are cool pictures.

I'm however disappointed that there are no copies available in any of the Chapters-Indigo bookstores in Ontario. It's listed on the website, but no copies that could be bought in the stores :(

confession: i have been sneaking into bookstores around the city, finding our wonderful book, pushing some surrounding copies of "the giver" (nothing person, lois lowry!) out of the way, and making room for "the full spectrum" to face out on the shelves in all its polka dot glory. you all make me super, super excited and happy!

[You got it.... Yeah Baby You got... ]
A Starred Review in Booklist!

* The Full Spectrum: A New Generation of Writing about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Other Identities. Ed. by David Levithan and Billy Merrell. May 2006. 288p.Knopf, lib. ed., $17.99 (0-375-93290-9); paper, $9.95 (0-375-83290-4). 306.76.

Gr. 811. The 40 contributions to this invaluable collection about personal identity have two things in common: all are nonfiction and all are by writers under the age of 23. Beyond that, diversity is the order of the day, and the result is a vivid demonstration of how extraordinarily broad the spectrum of sexual identity is among todays gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth. That said, some of the topics addressed in these essays and poems are familiar (the agony of coming out, the heartbreak of religious opprobrium). What is new and encouraging, however, is the fact that so many young people have felt free enough to share the truth about themselves in print and under their own names; as coeditor Levithan notes in his introduction, One way to effect change is to share truths. To tell our stories. Insightful, extraordinarily well written, and emotionally mature, the selections offer compelling, dramatic evidence that what is important is not what we are but who we are.
