Surviving Heart
There were, and there are times moisture would not, and could not, stop
It has felt at times as if my heart had a hole
But my soul floats and I have not gone down
I’ve been weighted down with no’s
Inner drive that God let me use as shield has let me beat back the thought of no hope
Growing I created hope that others could not see
They saw pain and sorrow
I felt the pain they saw
I never felt sorrowful for myself
My root were taking place were no disease can reach far enough clip my future blossoms
God blessed man made creators of medical wonders
Yet it has been me to rise
I’m growing resistant to failure and un-repairable hurt
I am a woman, over coming and battling
My soul reaches and spreads
I’m anchored from high winds, and low tides
The past troubled times are never far away
But I dance
I’m staying alive
Living to the beat of my surviving heart

SHE AND HE
He danced her into a dark corner
She and he forgot the world was turning
They were turning each other out
She and he dipped their tongues into forbidding fruits
At that moment in time, it was good for them
He forgot to tell her … he belonged to another
His back faced me, as I felt him stabbing me in mine
Deep in bliss, her closed eyes kept her from seeing me as her lips kiss him on his ear
I approached she and he ever so closely, and stood just inches from his other ear
The room danced
The music played
“IT’S A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE”
Blinded by his own arrogance, I whispered in his ear
She’s here for the moment, I’m gone for good
His body became stiff, and what might have been stiff in his pant, lost its heart
I walked away with my head held high, but my heart was bleeding
A deep scratch, but I live on
She is of no concern
He is crying alone at night, and begging
Me, I look forward to another day and another love

I Miss My Boom Box
Dropping beats down to the ground
As I strolled through the park
My boom box sends shock waves of hip notes to the sky
Dual cassette dubbing and mixed tapes of my own groove
Speakers shouting hip dancing funk
Reloading new 6x9 speakers because,
Sometimes I let Miles Davis Bitches Brew play loud and cool, and blew out my speakers
No heavy metal here, except for the handle and grill
When was the last time someone asked who’s that playing on the box
We used to share in the groove, and dance in the park to my boom box
There was a time
We waxed our cars in swirling rhythms
There was a time
Bar-B-Que cooked to the beat
Trash talking shouting “Hey Girl” over James Brown’s back beat
Talking loud and saying nothing
Flirted with that girls and licked my lips as if I was LL Cool J
A slow drag song helped me get to where that honey was going, and maybe back to my crib later that night
Hooped it up at the park, as the beat box boomed at half court
Pulled them weeds from the ground and hammered nails as I worked, and worked too the booming beat
Flexed in the muscle shirts with the boom box doubling as my bar bells
Oh no, the tape is slowing down and Minnie Riperton with her 5 and half octave range is starting to sound like Barry White
“L-0-V-I-N-G Y-O-U”
20 double D batteries drained my pockets
Never heard of a Dollar Store back then
“Hey man give me a dollar so we can keep on jamming”
Dropped 20 more batteries in, but I lost the back cover
Duct taped the batteries in, but on a hot day the tape sticks to you
Got my walk in stride, as the Blackbryds sing about “Doing After Dark, oh yeah at
Rock Creek Park oh yeah”
My afro peaks above my boom box that’s on my shoulder
“Hey Baby I see you, and I know you see me”
I’m in jeans so tight the 501 tag looks stitched to my ass
As the beat kept dropping from my boom box that was perched on my shoulder
I can still feel the weight of my boom box as the years go by
I got an I-Pod, b

IF SHE WERE MINE
If she were just inches away, I would edge up to ear, and whisper
“I wish you were mine”
She would feel me going into her mind with gentle thoughts of wants and wishes
Facing her just inches away eye to eye I’d let her see into me that I have nothing to hide
I am empty without her
The thought of her presence encourages a desire in me to come baring my soul
She could fill me up with her needs and wants and place them in every corner of my soul
If she were mine
I would kiss her into the beginning of time so we could live and never run out of time to kiss for as long as God
exhales life into us
My lips would journey the path she leads me
I find myself in her secret valleys with no way out
My lips, her lips, would invent a new way to travel and never move more than an inch
If she were mine
I would lay my head on her breast and listen to what is inside her
There would not be a worry if she would do the same for me
She is love and breathes love, and with her, every heartbeat I gain faith
If only she were mine
I would take her hand and we would dance
I gaze at her classic lines and let her beauty lead
We stride side by side
Dip bend and spin
We intertwine emotional clefs of Beethoven and Mozart and unify into jazz
Coltrane blows soft stars, and Aretha floats earth tones and we glisten in the passion and lust that no’s know end
If she were mine
I would let her shine
I want all to see she is more than a companion
She is my queen
She is my Favorite thing
If she were mine
I would be holding her in my arms
If she were mine
I would speak in scatting tongues
She would understand me, and that is all that matters
If she were mine
This poem would never end
Until she is mine, I’ll dream

“Honey, Baby, Sweetheart, it’s cold outside baby” she said, with her lips rolling in and out
“Come inside… my coat, there’s enough room for the both of us”
His warm lips nestled against the tip of her nose
She couldn’t help but to lean forward into his arms
She let a long sighing breath steam the air against his neck
She warmed his skin
He blocked the cold winds
She laid her souls as a blanket
He protected from coldest elements
They made a fire
Standing together in the cold winds of time, is always better than standing alone
It’s even better when someone loves you during the coldest times in this world
Fall turns into winter
Fire and desire warms toes, hips, breast and lips, and souls
Reach for love, and turn up the heat
Lower the thermostat of those summer expectations of the visual needs that make you hot
Think about Hot Chocolate filling your cup deeply, and it goes down so sweetly
If it drips, oh well, the clean up can be fun
Fall mists for sweet kisses
Winter drifts in-between the cracks and crevices
Fill yourself with love, and let it swell tight, and release only when you’re hot enough
Hold tight to love because it will be cold if holding alone
Feel someone’s heart beating, and let your heart beat for the need of warmth
Cold is coming winterize with love

Remember When She Smiled
She looked at you
You saw love, you saw happiness
You felt her heart beat
All because of the way you walked talked and made her feel
She felt high being on the mountain next to you
You felt like you were the king of the mountain, because she treated you just that way
You spoke to her as if she would be there forever
Made plains to do special thing with her and for her
She smiled the first moment she seen you, and each time you appeared
Made love and had sex at the same time
Blew her sexy doors wide open to anything you wanted to do, and she brought something to the table too that made you wanna holla
She lye next to you and fell asleep with a smile on her face
You smiled at her after she kissed you
Then full moons of times crept into the cracks of real times
One less smile and one less laugh here and there
Doubts began to add up
Time to do the work, because falling was easy
Standing up for what is right, and laying aside the unneeded, are conversations that sometimes hurt feeling
Two or more less smiles and less laughs all together
You notice, but hope it’s a phase and hope, it’s not the end
Throw some sparks that you used to throw, but where’s that burning desire
Still you love on, because you do, and she does
Hardly a smile, now you can count them
Seems you’re looking up at the mountain now
Now you start to muse over that you were the reason she used to smile
Last ditch effort you chastised her for wanting reasons to smile
Then, she’s gone
You looked around, and there wasn’t even her face to see a smile on, if she was smiling
Remember When She Smiled

Riding In The Rain
I saw you why riding in the rain
Thoughts of you played like a movie
As rain drops fell, and misted on my face shield,
I slowed down to enjoy thinking about you
And I slowed down to make sure I got back to you
The rain was warm; I could see a Rainbow ahead
My silver lining trimmed in red hummed underneath me
Two-wheels stayed down, I stayed up, under control, as my heart raced wanting to get you
Spray spread, with my feelings forever widening
The rain is dropping; it’s music, keeping a beat, and firing on time
I feel your passionate heart on my back
You’re there, behind me, holding on, as rain runs down, in-between
We’re riding in the rain, liquid sunshine, hot coming up, and coming down
We reach our destination
Center stand down, feet on the ground
We face, and kiss the mist
The dampness is sweet

I RODE DOWN THE LONELY HI-WAY
With the top down, the sounds of the ocean waves mixed with the soul of my 8 track player
Michael Jackson crooned, “I Wanna Be Where You Are”
My Blues bled into the dark sky
My eyes were on the road but, I see her at every mile marker, and with every star that sparkled above
I pushed on the gas as my heart raced
Where am I going?
Anywhere she might be
Teasing my soul hoping she was headed to me
Whoooo… I took that corner too fast
Slow down and live with the memories
My 8 track player switches songs and my mind flips and trips as
Michael Jackson sings, I Wonder Who Lovin' You
I fight the winds from blowing me over into on coming traffic
I fight my heart and mind and stay focused as push buttons on the 8 track, The Jackson 5 sing, “The Love You Save May Be Your Own”
I pass slow traffic and get on the straight and narrow and reminisce
Like when we were lovers in the night
She is sitting on my love
Her hands spread on my chest
Her lips and eyes smile
Feeling my love
We were cruising after we had climbed a mountain
I’m watching her mountains rise and fall, and drip on me
She and I create streams that lead to her river
I hold on to her firmly
I sing along with Michael Jackson, “Never Can Say Goodbye”
Whoooo… I almost ran off the road
I’m squeezing the driving wheel with all my might; my hands are numb
I look to the passage seat
I’m alone on this lonely hi-fi-hi-way
I check my seat belt, adjust my mirror, and try to adjust to the fact…she is gone
I turn the 8 track up, and hit repeat… and again
Little Michael Jackson sings, “I wanna Be Where You Are”
I hit the gas and head home

ON A DAY THE WORLD HONORS FATHERS
I reflect on what an honor it world be for any father to celebrate with you
If it was me, or that father you have known, and do know, on this day, to share with you, looking at you, and hearing you, perhaps being pampered by you
This moment in time a blessing to be cherish for a lifetime
You supporting and encouraging fathers, as in the man I’m trying to be,
I am only as good as the woman who is near me, talking to me, thinking about me, and helping me in the best or worst times
I see you happy in love to please me
An you do please me
A responsible man I strive to be
And as all men should feel, those little things you do, mean so much in making me the man I am
Yet I am not a perfect man and you are still there for me
As a determined father I am trying to give the full spectrum of manhood to my blood and all others who look up to me or need me
As an uncle, cousin, grandfather, friend, mentor, when it is time
I display firmness but with a loving touch, a man in touch with his emotions
Emotions I does not suppress for the image of false strength
For the strongest man is a man who is willing to show his inner self
Whether a tear or a cheer
Whether seething anger or a soft embrace
I wear my heart on my sleeve
My tears drip alone or in front of many
For the finest man is simple a man with a deep soul
Yet I am only as good as the woman who is there for me
She is a good man’s backbone
So on Fathers Day, it is our day
Let celebrate together
If not me, there is a father to be honored, and he is blessed to have you
cr@2009 Alvin Lloyd Alexander Horn, Here is a passage from my best selling romantic novel, BRUSH STROKES, order your copy @ Amazon.com
“A man may admire what a woman does for a living; he may admire her education and social circle. He may be enamored with her physical beauty, but he only truly falls in love, with the softest and warmest part of her, her soul.”

Hey - This Is From A Few Years Ago So No Need To Worry About Me...
Through The Window
The same window and the same view
Diluted by a heart once true
The grass was brown but viewed as green
The sky was black though blue was seen
The rain poured down each sunny day
Though skin felt wet hopes eyes betrayed
The world is not what once believed
Happiness shown was not retrieved
Close the shades and return to sleep
Shut down a mind that thinks too deep
The scenes the same in dark or light
Believed as good in black or sight
Sometimes ones faith can dissipate
A solid turned to gaseous state
Hope was dissolved within clogged air
Too many fates existing there
A cloud of smoke survives within
By bitter gasp its taken in
Coughs can’t relieve the empty pain
That saw the sun within just rain
Windows deceived a heart of hope
With sincere view mind couldn’t cope
Ignored what’s true as light of day
Painted sunlight where there’s just gray
Window open, window closed
Eyes awake or eyes disposed
One’s hands can’t shut the vacant view
And lonely eyes now see what’s true
The world is full of black and gray
Pain grows in strength each passing day
Eyes hold new view, a different scene
Windows the same, but truth is seen

Liquid makeup from your heart
Waters your outer beauty, growing you up
You are blooming
You are growing resistant to failure
Your soul reaches down and spreads
The winds of troubled times
Makes you dance when lesser beings fall down
